Beacon Academy / [sSR] Initation: Team TBD
« on: November 04, 2022, 09:58:24 AM »
As the students had been lined up at the edge of the Beacon cliffs a tall and well-built figure approached the podium, Alban Inverno, the headmaster of Beacon. While he did not introduce himself the sense of authority emanating from his movements was enough to inform those who did not recognize him.

“Adaptation” he let the word hang in the air as silence fell on the students “is perhaps the most fundamental quality of those who survive in our profession. It is a trait that is rarely tested through education, whether at school or at home, and one you can no longer afford to be ignorant of." He spoke in a calm, dispassionate tone. "When you land in the forest, the first person you make eye contact with will be your partner for your time at Beacon. They will be your partner until you graduate, drop out, or die. We will not entertain any requests to alter partners. So, adapt.”

He gestured at the forest before continuing “Below us is the Emerald forest, for your initiation each pair is required to venture into the ruins within it, claim a jade relic and return to the cliff. There will be opposition along the way, and you will have to fight for your survival. We are monitoring you, but our instructors will not be in a position to intervene. Remember that huntsmen and huntresses are not simple exterminators of Grimm but protectors of the people, today you will only be protected by your peers.“

A slight tone of excitement could be heard in his voice as he concluded with “Prepare yourselves.”

Slowly the professor studied each student individually, some were focused on the forest, others meet his eyes, and just as his gaze moved to the next student the previous one was launched into the air.

Plot Zone / The even softer reboot [Plot Signup]
« on: July 10, 2022, 04:08:38 PM »
The general premise has been brought up in the discord channel but I will go over it here as well as handle recruitment (In a dastardly plot to get more people to post on the forum).

So we have previously discussed the idea of having a soft reboot tied with some changes to the board, but we haven't really set anything in stone on what or how. Rather than getting stuck in the minutiae of what that could entail for the board, characters, and the world I propose we have a soft soft reboot. We will make no changes to the site infrastructure, setting, or anything like that. The focus here is to get people to post, to achieve that goal I propose that we focus on setting up first-year beacon teams as they are by far the most popular characters, and have an easy first thread plot hook in the form of initiation (Describe your characters landing strategy, run around and kill some grimm, meet up with teammates, kill more grimm, find something. Easy plot with no need to plan anything). To simplify setting up these teams we will pretty much ignore any previously established character lore, hence reboot.

Requirements
1. Your character needs to have a profile on the site.
However, as many of us will want to update characters they don't have to be fully approved, as long as they are in Character Editing or Character Creation they can be used to facilitate some speed (and in case approvals are slow since you know we haven't done them in a while)
2. Your character is being rebooted (ish).
Outside of their team we aren't being overly strict about this, however the point is just to help facilitate story elements. If your character has been influenced by a previous thread or has an important relationship with another character no one is going to stop you from keeping that canon, but too much of that could bog things down.
3. You are okay with getting discord pings.
Now I don't want to be spammed on discord anymore than the rest of you, but a simple message in a group chat to say "I posted, it's X turn now" and potentially a ping if they haven't posted in say 3 days, is perfectly reasonable.
4. Post the elevator pitch of your character here (this will count as recruitment).
This doesn't have to be much, just the broad strokes of the characters personalty and combat style (Mainly so we can avoid having a team where everyone is an anti-social sniper)

Sidenote: I am just making up these requirements and using "we" so it sounds more official. I would 100% welcome input on these points.

Based on the interest in the discord thread we will likely need more than one team, however, if we are lacking enough players to fill two teams then I will be happy to be on both teams (with different characters), and will gladly open that option to others as well. Once this has been up for a week or two I figure we will start to look at what teams could be made both in terms of characters and potentially names, but we will get to that when we get to it.

Obviously most will have their weapons and such but do any of your characters have any things they want on their person at all times?

For example Diana has a choker that she can attach fire dust to in order to help with the Atlas temperatures, however she always wears it (with the dust removed) as it was a gift and for a long time the most expensive thing she owned. On less of a sentimental note she also typically caries a basic first aid kit with her everywhere she goes.

Plot Zone / Who would be interested in a Beacon thread?
« on: November 30, 2018, 04:03:20 AM »
At the moment my threads have been rather quiet and I would like to get to post a bit more than 2-3 times a month so figured it was time to find a new thread to join. I don't have any specific ideas in mind (its always been one of my weaknesses) but figured if there were some people interested we could brainstorm a bit over on discord, or it could just be another casual social thread to get to know the other characters on site (I like those but not sure if everyone else does).

AMA Section / AMA for everyone: What goals do you have for a backstory?
« on: November 25, 2018, 12:00:05 PM »
All my threads have halted a bit (may need to join another one soon) and I had a question that has been jumping around in my brain since the recent voice chat. Whilst I don't like my characters to have a massively tragic backstory I do realize that I do want them to have something I can play off of to give them some personality flaws. For example, Diana is essentially afraid of her own semblance, which over time has given her a really poor view of herself. So rather than a tragic backstory, I try to have characters that have lived pretty well but have some personal emotional trauma.

So the question is: when you're writing a character's backstory what do you try to achieve with that story?

WiP Characters / Jade Lescour
« on: November 08, 2018, 11:24:53 PM »
Been a while since I've made a character, and since I haven't made a darker character yet I would love some input on making sure her story is interesting rather than full edge cringe.

CHARACTER

Name: Jade Lescour

Age: 17 (3rd of Frost, 63 AC)

Species and Gender: Cat faunus, female

Symbol: Styalised design of her Dust wheel

Occupation: 1st Year Atlas Student

Appearance: A glance at Jade would show a young woman who is almost the perfect example of Atlesian high society. Whilst her height is fairly average (5’4”) she still stands tall, wearing heels most of the time and maintaining perfect posture. Her regular attire is heavily inspired by the uniforms of the atlas specialists, a long white coat with blue accents and tall boots. On her back there is a unique piece of jewelry, a silver disk with elegant engravings across the metal and different coloured gemstones embedded in a circle. She has bright blue eyes, some minor touches of makeup, and shoulder-length ashen hair usually kept in a braided bun.

She gets very close to the social ideal but unfortunately cannot achieve it due to two fairly large cat ears on the top of her head. The right of these ears has a large scar at its base, giving the impression that someone had tried to cut it off but stopped halfway.

History: Before the war Lescour developments was a fairly small realtor focusing on housing students, staff and graduates from the Alsius combat school. However as Alsius grew into what we now know as Atlas, Lescour developments was ideally situated to capitalize on the migration from Mantle to Atlas leading to significant growth. The company is now among the largest real estate agencies on Solitas. Like other traditional Atlesian companies the top level management was passed down through the family.

The current CEO is Duncan Lescour, a workaholic who had managed to maintain growth even after all these years. Though it was unlikely to happen for a while there was no doubt that the next CEO would be one of his three daughters. The firstborn was Laura, as she was five years older than the twins she was most likely to take over the company and she was trained for it nearly from birth. Duncan was a very private man when it came it his relationships so little is know about the woman was Laura's mother, other than that she left Atlas only a year after the birth.

The next love of Duncan would have been quite controversial had the story ever reached public ears, as it was one of the houses faunus maids, Stella. Again the details are sparse however for the few that knew of their relationship it was clear that Stella and Duncan had utterly fallen for each other despite their different backgrounds. Stella was also apparently gravely ill at the time and Duncan would end up spending a small fortune to give her the best treatment available. While she never got healthy her condition improved and she lived for almost another decade. During that time the two would end up having children, twin girls, that Stella got to spend 6 years with before her illness caught up with her.

The twin girls were Jasmine and Jade. Before she had passed their mother had told them that while there was nothing wrong with being a faunus, their lives might be easier if they were willing to hide their nature from time to time. This was easier for Jasmine as her trait was feline eyes, so she simply ended up wearing contacts every day. Jade had it rougher, she had inherited her mother's ears, to hide them she wore some awful hats or a rather painful tiara that kept her ears folded to down and covered with hair. For the twins it was simply a game of who could hide it the best and in return they got to live like princesses. Together with Laura, the twins had private lessons in dancing, etiquette, painting, among many other subjects that an heiress should know. Despite having different mothers the three sisters became inseparable.

However, as they continued to grow up Jade's ears became harder and harder to hide, and when she was 12 years old her father told her that It simply wouldn’t be possible for her to attend the dinner parties he would hold for investors. While that would have been a blessing for most children her age it tore at Jade’s heart. Not that the dinners were all that fun mind you, but it had been drilled into them how important they were and besides the sisters would often perform some dance or play some music which Jade had loved. While Jasmine was a ball of energy Jade had always done whatever was required to be the perfect daughter, now would be no exception. A few weeks later when she was sure everyone was fast asleep, she brought a first aid kit and a knife to her bedroom. Just two quick cuts, some bandages and tomorrow she would be the perfect daughter again. It didn’t work out like that. Her screams of pain woke everyone in the house before she fainted.

By the time she was starting to wake up at the hospital her ear had already been sewn back on since she had gotten treatment so quick there wasn’t going to be any permanent damage, other than a scar. As she opened her eyes she was greeted to the sight of her sisters and her father. Still a bit dazed she didn’t catch everything they were saying however the gist was her father was telling her that if she wanted her hair cut then she just had to say so. Whilst he had stayed for a few hours her father eventually had to get back to work, but her sisters stayed all day. Within the week she was back at the manor.

While things quickly went back to normal for Jasmine and Duncan, both Jade and Laura were acting differently. Jade seemed to be in a good mood when she was out and about but she hid in her room quite often, and Laura had started to ignore some of her classes and always had a solemn expression when around Jade, she clearly had something on her mind but she just couldn’t find the right time to bring it up. The time would end up being after she noticed some minor cuts on Jade’s arm that she didn’t have a satisfactory explanation for. That night Laura went to Jade’s room to talk with her and she wouldn’t accept no for an answer, and while Jade was initially quite resistant she did slowly start to open up. Laura told her that she was the one to get to her first and she knew what she had tried to do, but had told the others that it seemed like a haircutting accident. They talked about her recent behavior, hiding away, her mood, the cuts, and for the first time in years they talked about her being a faunus. That currently in Atlas she would have fewer options, but that her ears were a part of her, they were beautiful and a reminder of their mother.

Jade had struggled with the fact that the life she had raised to for wasn’t going to happen. While she could certainly still live a life of luxury with the family, only one of them was going to take over after all, however she wanted to be of use to the family. So for the next couple of months she did something she hadn’t really done before, she tried to see how other faunus lived in Atlas, in order to find a respectable role she could still fulfill. Eventually the answer came to her, an Atlas Specialist. They seemed to be universally respected and she had seen a few faunus among them. While her father was initially reluctant to have her follow such a dangerous career path he would eventually relent. He hired the best trainers he could find to come to train her and stocked up on weapons of all kinds. It quickly became clear that she was a natural with Dust, and once her semblance backed that up she decided to forgo conventional weapons in order to stand out.

Personality: A lot of children who grow up with negligent or distant parents end up rebelling against them, Jade however reacted differently. With her mother passed on and her faunus nature preventing her from being close to her father she ended up doubling down on obedience. Going out of her way to do anything and everything to help him, even it if meant hiding from most of the guests to their home. Whilst she would claim that her relationship with her father is as good as possible given her nature, there's no denying that it does put a strain on her and it has, at least in part, led to some depressive periods.

As most dinner guests were unlikely to visit the library it was one of the few places Jade could hide without much concern as such she is fairly well read which when combined with her newfound ambition has allowed her to do quite well in both her practical and theoretical subjects. As an individual Jade is incredibly determined, always a thought on her goal of becoming a specialist. While she can be stubborn and is certainly strong-willed she can often default to a meek obedience, though that's not to be confused with her being shy. If she feels a trust or loyalty to the people on her team she will put their needs above her own.

Aura and Semblance: Her aura is, unsurprisingly, a Jade colour.

A Dust control semblance: She can pull Dust from the pack on her back, activate it and launch it towards an enemy. While she can attack from a fair range using this technique there is an important detail to make clear, she only has control of the Dust while it's inside her aura, once fired out it moves as a projectile depending on how she launched it. Meaning her attacks won't follow opponents and she can’t use other peoples Dust against themselves. Through careful control of how she launches the Dust, she can create some very simple structures, pillars, walls, a bridge for example. While she can create a simple weapon it's considerably more difficult as she needs to get the proper proportions and balance on a small scale so it takes a good 5-10 seconds, and it ties up one of her hands to maintain it so it limits her ranged effectiveness.

Combat Behavior: WiP
She carries no weapons and makes all her attacks using the Dust stored on her back which she carries a plentiful amount of and her semblance that has little fatigue drain. In order to deliver Dust at range in a more complex pattern to create simple shapes, she has utilized her background in dance. Unless she has taken the time to prepare a melee weapon she struggles as enemies get close, however even without it she is not defenseless in melee combat but she then runs the risk of damaging herself whilst attacking an opponent. She brings extreme elemental versatility to a fight, but any opponents that could stop her Dust or knock it off course could make her useless for the fight. As she uses raw dust rather than launching it from a fire arm her attacks do have a bit of travel time and as such she will struggle with very agile opponents at range, though there is always the option of simply adding more dust to the attack for a bigger boom.

Beacon Academy / A Lunch Side Chat [DGTL]
« on: September 06, 2018, 07:33:01 PM »
Typically the student sparring matches at Beacon are run as one vs one, sometimes with the option to tag in other teammates. The one on one format is done as it's easier to instruct two combatants over eight and it takes less space so they're run indoors. However for the huntsmen and huntresses in training it is essential to practice team coordination, so there are occasional four on four matches held outdoors. After one such event several of the first year students at Beacon could be seen in the grounds slowly making their way back to indoors for lunch.

One of the first to arrive in the hall was Diana. Duels between student always made her uncomfortable so she had left as soon as their fight was over, whilst most everyone else stayed to watch the other teams fight. That uncomfort was still nothing to the uncertainty she felt about being made a leader for their team, although they hadn't known each other long having seen them all in action she couldn’t shake the feeling that anyone of them would have been a better choice.

Walking with a slight limp she examined the food laid out on the buffet, piles of bacon, toast, doughnuts, even whole cream pies. However not one with much appetite she simply grabbed an apple and headed over to a table, figuring the others would join her when they got in.

The fight against team Brandy (BRND) had been rough. It started off well enough, the others were all kicking ass. But she struggled with the balance of fighting like she was used to and acting like a leader, this uncertainty had left her too distracted to notice that Nyx girl pop out of nowhere, it earned her a sprained ankle and it may have been a lot worse had Janna not saved her.

Sitting cross-legged in her chair and absentmindedly rubbing her sore ankle she stopped the play-by-play of the fight in her mind and looked around the hall to see if any of the others had made it in yet.

Teams / First year beacon team in need of a replacement [rip HTDG]
« on: August 26, 2018, 01:11:39 PM »
Hey as Floop has, unfortunately, said his goodbyes to the site it's about time for HTDG to live again without their H, so time to look for a replacement.

The team at the moment consists of
Janna Tarmac - Walter
Diana Farran - Vision
Brock Greenwood - Nathan67003

Once the team has been setup again we're hoping to do a thread to let them get to know each other, have no idea what it would be about but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

12
    Introduction
So it's over a year since I posted my original stats thread and a lot of improvements have been made since then so figured it was about time to update you all. I did consider just updating that thread but may end up using some of that stuff again later (though probably not)

For those of you not familiar with me or my work, I started a spreadsheet cataloging all the characters last summer as we didn't really have any resource like that (and I needed something to keep my mind busy). What started off as a checklist of simple things has evolved into something pretty massive, that has only been possible thanks to the brilliant help I've gotten from MonsterManic, Kaliot, and Moth (Please give them a thumbsup next time you see them, I may still have done the most but it means the world to me that others have cared enough to help out).

    Spreadsheet stats

I will summarize the main points here but if you ever want a look at the raw data, or just to browse out of interest the spreadsheet is open for anyone to take a look at (Always a link to it in my sig).

Let's start simple with the number of approved characters, an additional 79 characters since last year. Making up 23% of our total 339 at this moment.

    Gender: ShowHide

The male to female ratio is pretty much perfect, 170 female to 168 male, whilst there is only one character that is specifically nonbinary (this number is down from last year as transgendered characters were originally placed here, it was changed as I feel it is more appropriate to place them with the gender they identify as, they sure aren't non binary.)

    Species: ShowHide

We have no idea what proportion of characters in the world of RWBY are Faunus so hard to say if our proportion is appropriate or not. Currently there are 120 Faunus characters, 35% of the total.

While that may be reasonable the one place we are very statistically unbalanced is in the gender distribution of the Faunus. There are only 45 male Faunus compared to 75 female, as the amount of each gender are basically equal that means that female characters have a lot high percentage as Faunus (27% of all male characters and 44% of all female characters).

Nothing all too interesting or new in regards to the age of our characters, 17 currently makes up exactly 1/3 of all characters (113) while 18 is in second place at 25% (85) and there are 46 characters that are over 25 years old, 14%. The average age is 21 which is slightly above last year which was 20.5, again showing that we are moving towards more diverse characters.

    Height: ShowHide

This is one section that has improved vastly from last year as the graph then was presented just like the one above, and while somewhat useful there is so much variation of height between the genders that I wanted that shown, so that data was recollected by gender. The average male height is just above 5'8" while female is just above 5'5" (or 177cm and 168cm respectively if you come from a civilized country). There are also 27 characters that just don't have any height registered.

    Schools: ShowHide

Not the easiest to make into a graph with how few students the other schools have so here I've included a cutout of the spreadsheet, main improvement here has been to track graduates as well as the current students. I can also say that last year we had 23 characters from schools other than beacon and now we have 48, an increase of 108%, really great to see the other schools grow!

    Parents: ShowHide

Ahh one of my favorites, and one of the original topics for the first iteration of the checklist. We have updated this one a bit by emphasizing how many parents a character has, rather than how many have died. This was to make it easier to categorize characters that were raised by one parent with no mention of the other. That being said we do make a note of characters that specifically have murdered parents and can say with certainty that it's more common for both parents to get killed than just one.

    Weapons and semblance: ShowHide

These ones can't exactly be shown as graphs due to the sheer amount of variation going on, however we have put a ton of work into these sections to make them far better organized and a lot more pleasant to look at. So I highly recommend you check out these sections of the spreadsheet. Monster gets pretty much all of the credit for how great the weapons section has turned out. On behalf of him, I have a quick comment for everyone making characters with swords.

Faunus: ShowHide

Oh boy, much like this spreadsheet in general this was one section that spiraled a bit into crazy town. Trying to figure out a good way to display the species that showed which were similar to each other (basically to group lions and cats closer than lions and penguins) left me with only one option, complete taxonomy. I've included an image in the spoiler as it is pretty damn gorgeous.

In terms of stats there are 51 unique species, with Fox and Cat being tied for most common at 12 each. Just like last year, the most common traits were ears followed by tail, the third most common was profiles that claimed to be Faunus with no written Faunus traits.

Survey stats

The survey was started to address a lot of questions I was asked to look into where the info simply could not be found in the profiles. As people's attention span for this sorta thing is generally minimal the only way to get a reasonable sample size was to keep it short and a lot of pestering people to do it (Sorry about that). But it paid off, with 177 responses out of 339 profiles we have managed to get over the 50% marker (which for a survey is pretty damn impressive if I can say so myself). So here are the highlights from this dataset, please keep in mind that everything below does not represent all characters but just over half of them (52.2% to be precise)

    Hair color: ShowHide

    Eye color: ShowHide

    Aura color: ShowHide

    Racism: ShowHide

The show has made it perfectly clear that Remnant isn't always the most tolerant of the Faunus, and while we do try to have our characters live in the same world the problem is that people probably don't like playing racist characters. That's at least what the data shows, with only a handful of characters categorized into oppose and no extremists. With so few data points there isn't much point in making more graphs but I did find a few points of interest. Firstly all the oppose characters are either from Vale (Simply due to most characters coming from Vale) or from Atlas (which fits the lore nicely). In regards to the breakdown over the species, there were 3 humans in the extremist support group and a couple of Faunus in the neutral one though they were mostly under support.

    Sexuality: ShowHide

While it would be possible to determine some or most of the colors from the profiles it would have taken a bunch of work and a fair amount would still not even have it listed, so those were included in part out of practicality. The sexuality of the characters is not like that as only a few profiles would make any passing mention of it, but thanks to the survey we now have some insight into it. However, this is also an area we see a pretty large discrepancy between the genders in the stats, specifically male characters are more likely to be heterosexual (in fact almost 2/3 of straight characters are male) while female characters are a lot more likely to be homosexual or bisexual (Second graph).

    Combat: ShowHide

Since the combat stuff is hardly sensitive information that stuff can all be found in the spreadsheet if you want to take a look at it yourself, but ill give the highlights here as usual. Not too much for me to comment on here so I'll let the graphs do the talking. Only thing I want to clarify is the terms I'm using: Combat Style refers to preference between melee and ranged combat, whilst Combat Role refers to the specific example roles we have made (the definitions of those are in the spoiler below) and these aren't mutually exclusive as most characters fulfill multiple roles.

Not sure if I'll be updating much other than the combat stuff which can be found on the spreadsheet.
It's been a while since the survey was started to totally understand if you can't remember if you have done it. To that end I've made it incredibly easy to check.
    1. Head to the spreadsheet
    2. Click the "User" tab
    3. Find your username
    4. If the character name has a colored background then a response has been submitted, if the background is white then please submit to the survey!
If you have any issues with this please just hit me up on discord, lets at least get it to 50%

    To do

    • Find out why the /list thing keeps adding itself.
    • Finish and add the survey results
    • The team list is out of date with changes since I was gone so need to go through and update it
    • Determine student nationality, thereby determine the number of exchange students.
    • Proper tracking of the number of transgendered characters.
If you have any suggestions please comment with them.

Hey guys, long time no looking at the text that you have all written.

I've tried to come back twice before now and failed both times, but hey third times the charm right. First off I truly want to apologize for the way I just left things without any proper warning. I'm generally a very private person but considering how I kinda abandoned this I do want to give some detail about what happened. The short version is that insomnia and depression got really out of control, I've been taking 3 different types of sleeping pills trying to find the best solution (all of which drastically reduced my "functional hours" of the day) not to mention antidepressants. So yeah loads of fun pharmacological stuff. Anyhoo finally off them all and starting to feel a bit like myself again so time to dust off the spreadsheet again (Heck guess i never gave you all any results from the survey).

Can't promise I'll ever be as active as I once was but hopefully no more dropping off the face of the earth.

Hey guys sorry for the quite extreme departure out of nowhere, I am incredibly sorry it got as long as it did (and cant make any real promise that I'm back proper).

It's not something I particularly like talking about but suffice to say I've been quite sick (Nothing too serious mind you, but have been placed on some varying medications all with their own fun set of side effects). Anyhoo while I don't think I'll be back to the level of activity I was I do want to start again (and finish my stats projects).

Sorry for abandoning the threads like that (Although I have on multiple occasions said to skip me or drop me so perhaps not that bad), and hopefully back(ish)((tm))

    Approved Characters / Bastet Nin
    « on: November 06, 2017, 03:03:50 PM »
    CHARACTER

Name: Bastet Nin, usually Bas for short

    Age: 17 (12th of Hitahita, 63 AC)

Species and Gender: Cat faunus, female

    Symbol:

Occupation: Huntress in training, first year Haven

Appearance: Although she stands a bit shorter than the average guy at 5'7" Bastet still manages to be a commanding figure on the battlefield. Her form is certainly feminine yet all of her visible dark skin is clearly toned by significant muscle. She has sharp facial features and whilst her pupils are human their color is an intensely feline yellow. Her jet black hair is trimmed to a short bob cut with a pair of fuzzy cat ears crowning it.

Fashion in Vacuo tends to favor comfort and practicality over looks so her general attire used to be a simple black tank top with whatever jeans she could find that seemed the cleanest. However upon arriving in such a fashionable place as Mistral she started to feel a bit underdressed, as such she has taken to wearing a rather fashionable cropped jacket with her symbol embroidered on the back. Her only accessory of note is a simple bulky metallic bracer on her right arm that can expand into a round shield.

    History:
A decade before Bas would be born, her father Amaz had left Menagerie working as a deckhand on whatever cargo ship would take him. Although hardly a prestigious position, it afforded him enough experience and contacts that he would slowly but steadily climb the corporate ladder. Travelling to every corner of the world he would eventually meet the love of his life, Mei, an accomplished painter in Vacuo. Leaving the sailors life behind, Amaz started to manage the handling of cargo to and from the ships and their warehouses, a new job that would let him stay on land with his soon-to-be wife.

Together they had a single child, Bastet. Rather than her father's wolf tail, infant Bas's head was adorned by kitten ears and a dark complexion that matched her mother's. Whilst their family was doing quite well for itself, Vacuo is still a chaotic place by nature, and the stress of combining a life of Grimm attacks at sea with experiencing Faunus discrimination first hand had left her father a bit concerned in general. This was one of the reasons why he pressured Bas to get combat training. When the time came she enrolled and gladly went to Oasis, in part because she thought it would be exciting but also as it would still leave her with reasonable free time to get on with her art. She may have been born a Faunus like her dad, but her personality was certainly leaning toward her mother's side instead. She had grown up with her mother's painting and had adored watching her create art, seeing how each layer would add to the next. However with time she started getting an empty feeling from the art; as she had grown her mother's art had stayed exactly the same. It was certainly an impressive feat to succeed as an artist but yet Bas couldn't shake the feeling that she had seen it all before.

Amaz had originally pictured that once her training at Oasis was done she could pursue a different career but still have her combat training ready to protect herself. Bas however was hooked. Although she wasn't someone with an intense need to fight Grimm, she had become proud of just how well she could do it. Seeing an opportunity to travel the world like her dad and expand her artistic horizons, she set her sights on Haven Academy in Mistral.

Personality: Bastet is an incredibly creative and resourceful person, but only if she thinks it's worth it. She does have a bad habit that once she has decided on a design or otherwise found the solution to a problem then she loses interest quickly, afraid to stagnate like she feels her mother did. Though she enjoys being a good fighter, it's not something she finds creatively stimulating, so once she developed a style she was competent with she didn't feel the need to develop it further. Similarly, she doesn't care too much about the more theoretical subjects she was taught, causing her to be a bit below average academically.

Aura and Semblance: Her aura has taken a golden color.

Not one to overcomplicate things, she typically refers to her semblance as her 'weapon bond'. As long as her spire is within 40 feet of her, she is able to blink to it. Though simple in its nature, it has become essential in her fighting style. The blink is essentially instantaneous, though not a true teleport; if a wall is in between her and her weapon, she will faceplant into the wall.

Combat Behavior: In battle, Bastet is best described as a skirmishing brawler. Her semblances provides her with incredible mobility, and while most commonly used to engage the opponents back line, she also uses her semblance and collapsible shield to fall back and protect her more fragile teammates. One of her favorite moves is to toss her weapon straight up and blink to it in order to get a quick birds eye view before launching it (and thereby herself) towards the enemy. In melee, she favors holding her glaive in both hands, but can quickly adopt a more defensive form with her shield and use the glaive as a spear. Though strong and versatile in melee, Bas is often a predictable opponent, with no Dust weapons to mix in some elemental flavor. Though her mobility is high with her semblance, anyone who keeps track of where her glaive is thrown will know precisely where she will blink too. She used to carry a simple store-bought handgun as a way to increase her ranged combat prowess, however she was such a terrible shot that she just started throwing her glaive instead.

    WEAPON

    Name: Spire

    Primary Form: Glaive
Although a glaive is essentially just a short blade on the end of a stick there are some complexities to the design of Bas' Spire. The majority of these revolve around optimising it for throwing, due to how well this synergises with her semblance. The major changes were to add weights so that the centre of mass was lower and to trim back the curved blade so it had a point and go stick where it would be thrown.

Secondary Form: Storage / Short Sword
The only other significant design on the Spire was to give it a telescoping handle. This does let it become a curved short sword however Bas rarely if ever uses it as such, the point of the design was to have a pracitcal way to store a polearm on a belt.

    Dust Functions: N/A

History: Though simple in its design a lot of work went into designing a glaive that could also be thrown as a spear, however once she had figured that out Bas hasn't really changed the desing since.

    WEAPON

    Name: N/A

    Primary Form: Collapsed bracer
On her arm this is nothing more than a bulky bracer, it could be used to block blows but it's incredibly impractical as its smaller than a buckler shield and strapped to her arm.

    Secondary Form: Shield
Upon activation the metal folds out in two directions which in turn spiral out to form a round shield.

    Dust Functions: N/A

History: Bas' shield was initially the product of boredom. Her spire essentially only has a single form as a telescoping handle is hardly a complicated mechanism and a store-bought gun doesn't exactly need much tweaking to work. Do during their workshop time at Oasis she just didn't have much to do. What could have just been a slab of metal forged into a circle became an over-engineered collapsing structure, just in order to fill time.
