Title: Bone of the First [SSMR]
Post by: Ordelis on January 21, 2018, 10:20:41 AM
Vacuo, the desert kingdom with a struggled history. The Underdog of the four kingdoms, targeted for its vast resources. And as a result, its culture became the rough and strong populace it’s known for today. To fight your own battles, this is what its people believe. So when you’ve been wronged by the unfriendly sort, unless times are dire, its become common courtesy to initially not lend a helping hand.

It happened so fast. A crack of terrible pain and rapid footsteps running away. Solar in a daze of agony followed the only cloaked figure in the crowd that looked to be in a hurry. Her horn, it was broken halfway through in a jagged lightning bolt shaped crack. She could feel it as she held the spot it broke with both hands in an attempt to soothe the pain. For Solar it had not been long she arrived at Vacuo, let alone the combat school of Shade, she was suppose to meet her new team today, little did she know she still would.
The cloaked figure burst through a home with a red wooden door frame, it was going through the door did Solar notice for the first time her assailant was rather short. Following after, she entered the same door only for the room to be entirely dark. A set of stairs lead down a basement and a dark hallway off to the left was all she could see. Before she could decide which way to go a scrambling noise of dirt and something breaking was heard from down the hallway. Following after the noise, Solar blindly runs down the dark, only to stub her foot on something hard. For the second time today now she was in piercing pain, looking down at what she kicked, it turned out to be none other than the square hammer that struck her horn. Curiosity got the better of her and she picks up the weapon examining it, the only thing significant about it was a symbol unknown to her, though she had a feeling she had seen it somewhere.

A groan came from the dark, someone was there, someone hurt. Solar finally finding a light switch, flips it on to reveal a faunus man bleeding from his head. A deer faunus, with both of his antlers broken off. The sudden light stirs him awake and lays eyes on the first thing he sees, Solar with the hammer. The man calls out for help in a panicked cry, under the impression she’s the culprit. "Aargh! Somebody help!" The noise immediately attracts passerbys and in comes

Sean Acacia
Suna Arevik
Maena Nadir

They come across the scene,a man in a panicked state, bleeding from his head missing his limbs, and Solar standing in the middle of the room, with the hammer.
"Hey,so I know this looks bad..." said Solar with her hands up, but one hand still holding the hammer.

Sean wasn't really the sort who cared much for schedules -- at least, not unless someone was paying him or, conversely, threatening him. He'd woken up with the vague memory that at some point today he'd be meeting up with his new teammates, but sometime in between getting into the (cold) shower and frying up breakfast he'd let himself all but forget to check his Scroll for when. After all, he didn't want to give people the wrong impression, thinking him reliable and timely. They might even expect him to be responsible! No, best to nip that in the bud right off. And so it was that much of the morning had already gone by and the desert rat had barely given a passing thought to the big team meet-up.

One of the interesting things about the city of Vacuo is that, unlike Vale, Mistral, and especially Atlas, things aren't necessarily laid out in a clean, simple manner. Sure, you had a market district and a residential district, the slums and the VIP housing, and of course the school... but peppered all throughout were little sparks of independence refusing to conform to the given categories and set limits. The "hidden shops" of the residential district were among the city's seldom-seen gems -- if you knew and talked to the right people you could get some pretty good deals on hard to come by goods. Admittedly it was all hush-hush; there were no receipts or refunds, no warranties or even signs posted, and you could be fairly certain that whatever you bought probably fell off the back of an airship or convoy at some point, but if you were smart and knew how to haggle nearly anything could be had. Plus it wasn't a bad walk... if you knew to keep out of other people's problems.

Sean wasn't always good at that.

He was just walking by a house with distinctive red wooden door frames when the sound of a scuffle, or something very like it, reached his ears. Stopping to listen, he admittedly couldn't really be sure what was going on -- at least, not until someone started shouting for help. He hesitated; on the one hand it was none of his concern... on the other, if there was a robbery going on or something worse he was already technically a witness, whether he wanted to be or not. Plus the teachers at Shade would ream him out about 'the duty of a Huntsman to the people' if they ever found out he walked away from a crime in progress. "Ghn... ah, damnit."

Pausing for just a second at the door, the dusty-blond forced it open and stumbled across a grisly, blood-stained scene -- the sort that immediately urged his breakfast to revisit him. That guy over there wasn't just bleeding, he was missing parts of him! And there was someone else as well: a Faunus girl with ram horns holding a hammer, looking stunned and more than a little bit battered herself.

"Hey, so I know this looks bad..."

Sean opened his mouth, intending very much to say 'yeah, it looks like somebody tried to f***ing murder that guy, and you're holding a weapon', but his body had... other ideas. After a second of his jaw hanging slack on the verge of speech, he instead abruptly raised a finger in the 'one moment, please' gesture, pulled himself urgently around to the other side of the doorway, and promptly emptied the contents of his stomach into the flower beds on the front porch. Not a great start to things...

When it came to knowing the layout of the city, Suna was one of the best; it wasn't something he advertised. However, there were unexplored parts of the city, in his mind displayed as simply dark-red, that until recently were too dangerous to venture into. Now that he was in the stages of becoming a full-fledged Huntsman and Scavenger, he felt much more comfortable chipping into those previously untouched zones.

It was in one of those said zones that Suna found himself presently. He was in his mission attire and had his weapon hanging off the side of his hip, concealed, prepared for the possibility of an altercation. Sand was raised above Suna's head like a parasol giving him additional coverage from the relentless Vacuan sun, and in his hands was his scroll, his fingers tapping away as he made observations about the area. The area didn't seem as bad as people and crime records made it out to be, but Suna could've been having a lucky day or overall crime could've been taking a break. For all he knew, it could've even been both. While he was thankful about the peace, this anomaly would certainly require him to return in the future.

That wasn't the only reason Suna was around. "Kill two birds with one stone" is a motto he likes to stick by if he can help it; it makes his schedule more optimal provided that the two tasks aren't at odds with each other. In this case, Suna was also searching for someone, hoping they would have key information he could use to plot out his next scavenging mission.

Suddenly, a faint cry for help came before him and up ahead he saw a blond boy rush into a building. Suna picked up his pace, the sand above his head falling cleanly around his body as his made his way toward the house. Like the boy before him, Suna too paused. The building seemed to match the description of the one described by his other sources. He rushed in as well and made sure to drag plenty of sand in with him.

Suna entered the room, took stock of the situation, and immediately erected a sand wall separating the injured man and the apparent assailant. He had some sand reserved to blind the ram Faunus should she try to attack him and the now-vomiting boy as well. Suna couldn't blame the blond for throwing up, and Suna could feel something stirring in him as well, but a mixture of his curiousness and the darker side of the internet has led him to be fairly desensitized to this sort of stuff.

He reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a small, folded photograph. He unfolded it and held it up so that it was side-by-side with the victim, and after a few seconds he refolded it and replaced it in is pocket. He turned toward the ram.

"It really does. How about explaining yourself?"

"It really does. How about explaining yourself?"

"Someone hit me on my horn and just ran off!" Solar exlaimed, tilting her head so her "guests" could see the crack on her horn that was dripping with blood that would make her wince every so often. "I followed them in here but all I found was him and this, it's what they used on me!" she said indicating the man who was still screaming behind a wall of sand and the square hammer that had a speck of her blood on one side. "Hey It wasn't me! I didn't do this!" she pleaded, the last part she yelled at the sand that blocked her from the faunus on the other side still convinced it was her.

It was, as usual, a blisteringly sunny day, Maena thought. Thankfully, the tall building and/or cramped streets allowed pretty much anyone to bathe in the cool shadows. Which she gladly did on her way to the meeting place that'd been arranged. Yes, today was the day she'd be meeting her team. She had little clue as to who they were or what they were like apart from a few photos for identification.

Her steps were brisk and determined, Sositi disassembled at her sides and on her back. Sure, halberd was more useful to start with in a confrontation but in these alleyways, might as well be wielding a refrigerator. She knew where she was going - well, mostly, since the maps the Academy kept weren't exactly complete or precise once you moved as far away as she was right now. The various roofs covering this alley and that street didn't help either, camouflaging the real paths from any attempt at aerial recon.

She rapidly checked her scroll again - seemed to be nearing her destination - when some nearby screaming attracted her attention. She grabbed hold of her tonga and gunned it towards the source of the sound, intending to help whoever was in need.

She arrived right besides the source of the sound - a small, inconspicuous house where three other people were present, add one for the Faunus writhing and screaming in pain on the floor. She arrived right on time to hear the girl holding a large, bloodied hammer say "I didn't do that", to which she replied "If you didn't, how about dropping the fucking hammer?" before bifurcating to the other side of the wall and kneeling down to the wriggling man, leaving the other two present to deal with the suspect.

"What the is going on here" rumbled a deep voice from behind all of them.
A man so tall his head nearly scraped the celing with a powerfully built body walked up from the stairs that lead down. The tank of a man was presumably sleeping from the sunflower adorned pajamas he was wearing that didn't suit him in the least. The sight wouldv'e been laughable if not for the murderous expression in his eyes. "Argh Brother Gul over here!" The original man cried still behind the wall of sand. Hearing the urgency behind the voice, the giant barreled past the students and sand as if they weren't there."Lule what happend, who did this to you?" the giant asked in panic at the sight of his brother with blood pouring out his head.

The injured man known as Lule pointed a shaky finger at Solar. "What!? No! I'm telling you I..." but she was cut off by the giant now known as Gul who rapidly thrust his hand into a nearby wooden cabinet with enough force to break the wood like paper. Gul yanked his hand out and in his grip was, ironically enough, a massive sledge hammer that made the one in Solar's hand look like a toy. Solar was never scared of death, but she was scared of the pain and  possibilities this man could do. "Woah woah okay big guy let's calm down for a sec okay? If I could just explain... but Solar had to duck, with the power of a truck Gul's hammer whirled sideways aiming to destroy her top half. When avoiding the hammer, Solar innvoluntarily let go of the hammer she was carrying. It flew away and slid at a stop at Suna and Sean's feet.

The giant's hammer struck a window that opened up a hole, Solar figuring the man was not willing to reason, leapt up on the hammer and jumped off it like a spring board outside, escaping. "Get back here you Horns!" he turned to leave his house presumably to chase after Solar until he noticed the three students for the first time.
"And what are you three supposed to be, are you with HER?" Gul howled pointing a finger at the hole in the wall. Gul was a tank of a man who looked to be in his thirties, tall beefy, and muscles the size of trees. He had a square chin and not a hint of any facial hair, or any hair for that matter. The only thing significant about him were the pair of nubs on his forehead just above his eyebrows. This man was also a faunus, it looked as though he also had his antlers cut off, but a keen eye could see they were just extremely small and intact.

This, this crazy shit right here? This was why Sean tried to stay out of other people's drama. Admittedly, this was among the worst situations he'd stumbled into, but even so...

While he'd been upchucking in the petunias, the desert rat had also been half-blindly fumbling for his Scroll. He was selfish, but not heartless -- someone in that building had just had their body torn into and was missing limbs, which meant urgent medical care was needed. Finally, when the roiling tempest in his innards subsided Sean managed to flip the device open, punch in the emergency services number, and hit send.

"Yeah, I need a med-evac airship at my current location, like right the hell NOW. ... No, I'm not the patient; some guy in the house got his limbs taken off and is probably bleeding out right goddamn now and --" He groaned, interrupted by the voice on the other end. "Yes, it's me. No, I didn't -- ... -- if you'd just stop for one -- . . . -- no, I -- . . . --NO I DIDN'T BLOW ANYTHING OR ANYONE UP! I'm a bystander to all of this and --"

"Lule what happend, who did this to you?"

Hearing the booming voice from the other side of the doorway, Sean pulled himself up to standing and glanced inside. He was just in time to see a giant of a Faunus turn a cabinet into splinters grabbing for a hammer that made the one Solar was holding look like a toy by comparison. His eyes went wide and "Ohshit" rolled off his lips without him even meaning for it to. The thunderous sound of what came next easily drowned out the hostility coming from the other side of the call.

"And what are you three supposed to be, are you with HER?"

Big, giant man, in a rage, with a wrecking ball on a stick. Sean knew a bad situation about to get worse when he saw one. "SendhelpgottagoBYE!" He shouted hurriedly into the Scroll before ending the call, only glancing briefly at the hammer that had slid across the floor in front of him before turning to book it in the same direction as horn girl. This was NOT his day for certain -- the only way he was going to get out of this mess now, especially once word got back to Shade, was to figure out what was really going on here and clear himself from suspicion. First, though, he had to survive stumbling across all of this. It was only as his feet pounded the pathway, with his brain whirling a million miles a second, that an odd pair of thoughts came to him: 'Haven't I seen that girl somewhere? The other two also looked familiar...'

The ferocity and power of the brutish Faunus left Suna in awe. The apparently assailant and the ill blond had bailed a the drop of a coin, and Suna certainly would've too had it not been for Maena and the injured Faunus.

"We have nothing to do with that girl," Suna strained out as he took a couple steps over so he was in the vicinity of Maena and the poached Faunus. The sand wall that he had erected slumped to the ground for a moment before it made its way toward the brute. Shortly after, a wave of sand began to pour into the room through all the major entryways--the door, window, and hole in the wall--which Suna sent after the furious man, also making sure to keep the sand away from them as best he could.

Maena did her best to shield the bleeding Faunus from any possible debris ensuing from the rather express demolition of the small... kitchen? Probably kitchen, judging by the cabinets.

Upon being questioned by the larger man on the subject of possible involvment with the lass who dropped the hammer, she was about to retort that the girl was 1) visibly injured as well and 2) taking care of "Lule", as it were, was far more important than chasing after one ot two possible innocents whose whereabouts were known when the guy she identified as Suna interjected and, er, otherwise stopped the bigger Faunus from hearing whatever she would've said. Instead, she turned down, continuing to protect the deer Faunus. Speaking to be heard above the rush of sand, she asked "Lule, is it? Could you tell me what happened before you ended up like this?"

"I was...fixing a hole in the wall...no not that one...a different one" Lule said in a weak voice, he pointed with his eyes a spot low on the wall where wooden planks boarded up another hole. But some of the planks were broken or ripped off the nails on the wall, making Lule's attempts at fixing it redundant.
"I didn't hear that faunus girl come in, she must've snuck in and knocked me unconsious...how did that hole get broken again?" Lule asked, not pointing at the hole Gul made but the old one that had traces of it being repaired and broken again. A ripped piece of a tan colored cloth hung on a nail on the hole.
"They're gone...gone" Lule cried as he placed his hands on his broken nubs, feeling for his faunus antlers that were nowhere to be seen. "Undo your sand so I can tend to my brother, if you have nothing to do with Horns that you let escape, you can bring her to me" Gul growled, glaring right at Suna

Unbeknown to Solar, someone other then Gul saw where she was hiding. Though following her would've been the easiest thing in the world considering the trail of blood from her horn she was unintentionally leaving behind.

As someone who was brand new to Vacuo, she couldn't recognize the mark on the hammer. But someone who was well informed of the daily life in the desert kingdom would recognize it easily. Not everyone warrior was capable or had the skills to make any weapon of their choosing. It wasn't uncommon for a fighter to use a weapon outside their skillset to handle a creature that was better suited for it. The mark was the Weaponmaker Makar Hemmer, owner of a self owned shop called Makarms. Makarms supplied dust and weapons for not just Huntsman, but even for the average fighter without the right skills. His supply was known for being inexpensive and of average quality, a safe place to shop considering its enviroment.

Solar ran for dear life in fear and terror. Looking back she didn't see the giant following her so she turned a corner into an alley. She had to do something about her horn, the pain was becoming unbearable. She was never good with medical treatement and it had never been broken so extensively, she undid the ribbon on her horn and tied it back over the wound in a poor attempt to stop the bleeding. It still hurt. She could handle hordes of Grimm but being accused for a crime? What a great way to start at Shade. She had been looking forward to this day for years and she felt like the world was intent on stopping it. She was a criminal, wanted, and unwelcome. As far as she knew, no one was around, so she let the tears fill her eyes that had nothing to do with her horn.

(OOC: Gotta say, this thread's off to a pretty solid start! I do enjoy a good mystery to be solved.)

Catching up with the girl from the 'scene of the crime' was clearly step one, and Sean fortunately wasn't too far behind her when he started running. Nor, as it turned out, was she doing a particularly great job of escaping -- the trail of blood flecks on the cobblestone was basically pointing the way, after all. He was only slightly worried when she veered into an alleyway up ahead; he'd learned these back streets as a kid, so unless she was just as knowledgeable and twice as nimble he knew he could catch up. That, as it turned out, wasn't really necessary.

He slowed as he approached, waiting and listening for a second just to make sure she wasn't getting ready to turn around and ambush him. Instead, sobbing echoed softly down the alleyway. That on its own said a lot, he realized; mentally, Sean's tally of how likely this Faunus girl was to be trustworthy was slowly ticking up. He thought about it for a second, then slowly and non-threateningly stepped into the alley with his open palms held up for Solar to see.

"Take it easy... I'm not here to cause trouble." He slowly walked over, looking at the injury to her horn. Even with the improvised wrap it was pretty clearly a bad break. It wasn't nearly as bad a situation as that guy back in the house -- Luke, or Lute, or something? -- but it clearly needed real medical attention just the same. He sighed, wondering how he'd let himself slip into such a mess in the first place, then leaned against the wall opposite Solar and slid into a sitting position.

" . . . You say you didn't to that, back there. I believe you." He started. Glancing over her, he spotted what looked like the blades of an axe, tucked away as best as something like that can be. "I happen to know a few things about weapons physics, like how it's a lot harder to take somebody's limbs off with a hammer -- like what you were holding -- than a blade. I'm also not dumb enough to think that someone with intent to chop a guy up would switch to a blunt weapon to finish the job, especially when doing that risks being caught. So, yeah... I believe you."

Reaching into his satchel and fishing around briefly, Sean pulled out a lollipop and offered it to Solar. "Thing is, when something goes sideways in this city I usually get treated as guilty until proven innocent, -- just how it is. I know what you're going through right now... and we're sorta in this mess together now." He paused. "We really need to get that horn patched up before you pass out. By the by, do I know you from somewhere?"

Everything would've been all fine and dandy. Would've.

Suna balled his fists. "We had it under control until your little fit allowed for her to escape!" He relaxed his hands and the sand stopped flowing into the room.  He returned the glare of the brute. "You've got this under control. I'll leave you to it". It was obviously sarcastic but his tone said otherwise.

He looked down at Maena. "That guy called in the Hats(cops) so we should probably get out of here". He made his way toward the door and stepped onto something hard, discovering that it was the bloodied hammer when he dispersed th he sand. He picked it up and carried it outside. "I'll take out the sand when the girl leaves, or in a minute. Whichever comes first".

Back in the sunlight, Suna noticed there were some murmuring bystanders in the vicinity but he quickly ignored them. He looked around for the blond and assailant but they'd already hone. He reformed his sand parasol and left in an opening for a bit of light to shine through. Giving Maena a minute to leave if she wanted to, he to examine the weapon.

He placed the hammer into the beam and rotated it about. It was fairly new and had a logo that he recognized as Makarms which he new was in the area but as to exactly where he wasn't sure. Suna turned toward the bystanders. "Can anyone point me to Makarms?"

Maena moved aside for the giant do pick up his brethren but didn't come out, waiting for the two Faunus. Seriously, the least they could do was provide some sort of escort to the nearest emergency center. She sincerely doubted that, as strong as the larger man was, he would be able to easily defend both himself and Lule with his arms literally full.

She briefly turned towards her - now she recognized him - soon-to-be teammate. "Instead of being a dick, how about you try and understand the emotions of somebody who just woke up to find someone he holds dear on the ground, missing antlers and bleeding?", she said in a somewhat berating tone. She then turned and no longer paid Suna any mind, continuing by addressing Gul this time, albeit in a serious and non-chastising tone; "I'd like to escort you to the nearest emergency center you know about. Nothing guarantees that whoever did this won't try to come in for a second round."

Solar practically jumped at the voice, she was too prideful to let a stranger see her like this so she quickly wiped her face pretending she wasn't just crying. The redness in her eyes wasn't convincing Sean in the least. She watched him take a seat across from her and recognized him as the one who threw up upon arrival. Despite the circumstances she couldn't help but snicker at the thought.

...So, yeah... I believe you."

Those three words brightened her expression back. Laugh when your scared,

Reaching into his satchel and fishing around briefly, Sean pulled out a lollipop and offered it to Solar. By the by, do I know you from somewhere?"

Where she was raised there was no candy, but with curiosity she took the lollipop and looked at it with a quizical look. At the mention of fixing her horn, she assumed that he was offering her some kind of medicine. She removed the wrapper and started rubbing the candy on her wound. Something didn't seem right, but she continued anyway. "Not that I know of" she said answering his question. Solar was not adept at using her scroll, the names and faces of her team were sent to each member but she wasn't able to figure out how to open it, much less access information on it.

The perplexed look on Sean's face as Solar rubbed the lollipop over the break in her horn basically spoke for itself. ". . . You are not from around here, I'm guessing." He pulled out another set of lollipops, unwrapping one and popping it into his mouth before offering her the other -- this one watermelon flavor. "It's not medicine, it's candy. Sugar. A sweet treat to eat. Comfort food, basically." He smiled at her, all while wondering what sort of backwater this girl had come from where she'd never seen a lollipop before. If nothing else, her ignorance made it seem even less likely that she'd have attacked and maimed somebody in cold blood. What a day this was turning out to be.

Rising to his feet and offering his hand to help her up, Sean hooked a thumb towards the opposite end of the alleyway. "Lucky you, I know this city like the back of my hand. There's a doc who lives just up the road who owes me a favor; she'll get you patched up. Then we can sort out this mess." He pulled out his Scroll as he started walking, gesturing for Solar to follow. "I just gotta call my team, let them know I won't make the meet-up today -- I'm probably already late, but what else is..."

He was about to say 'new', but had reached the contacts page Shade sent with the photos and Scroll numbers of Team SSMR, basically dead-stopping in his tracks as his eyes took in the faces. Several long seconds went by in silence before he looked up at Solar, back down to the screen, and then back to Solar again, blinking in surprise. "...Wait a tick." He held up the Scroll so Solar could see, her picture sitting right next to his on the roster. "Are you...?"

Maena understood where Gul's hostility came from, but she didn't like being ordered around in such an aggressive fashion. She didn't like how the suspect was her to-be teammate, either. She stood still for a brief time, her face becoming colder as she did, before starting to move and replying with "That girl is a Shade student. Not only would attacking her have severe repercussions, I doubt the Academy would accept someone who goes smashing Faunus antlers willy-nilly."

She turned around once outside and, right as she was about to start running after the trail of blood, shouted back "And if you didn't notice, her left horn was cracked open and bleeding!", after which she gunned it.

Suna's rat ears twitched as the man raised his voice, the sounds spilling through the various holes embedded in the building. He shrugged of the demand; he had no intention of taking orders from that guy. When the girl emerged from the house shortly after, a smirk flashed across his face. Suna watched her as she followed the blood-trail that he himself had missed. After a few moments, he turned around and headed into the opposite direction, set on paying this weapon-shop a visit.

He dropped the hammer onto the ground and instead dragged it behind him using his semblance as he made his way toward Makarms.

It didn't take long for Suna to find his destination. Makarms was a shabby little dust shop, and this was an accomplishment of itself considering its neighboring buildings were all run down in some way. But Makarms' faded old lettering and state of disrepair suggested the building was either very old or on tough times, or both. Walking in ringing a bell, the store was like any other dust shop, columns of colored dust tubes lined the walls, cases of crystalized dust lined in several rows, and weapons of every variety could be seen, with an emphasis on blunt hammer weapons. Among all the stocks of dust, none of the tubes were fully stocked, all of them were missing a certain level of dust, whether it was a quarter of the tube or three quarters or even completely empty ones. In fact many spaces were empty from where items should've been, either business was good or someone wasn't properly restocking this place.
A man with a chin strap beard wearing a brown appron sat behind a counter, the man looked up to glance at Suna and dropped his gaze back down to the book he was intensely reading.

Solar accepted the second lollipop, and attempted to bite into it like normal food. She found it to be harder then she thought it would be, so she bit a second time with much more force. With a crunch the ball of candy came off the stick and Solar contiued to furiously chomp the hard candy to bits. "It's really hard, but I like it" she said with a smile holding the stick not sure what to do with it.
She took his hand getting up and she brought herself back to her senses, at the mention of a doctor she said "No I'll be fine" she wanted to be strong, making up for her crying. "Thanks but your not involved with me, if you help me it'll just be trouble for you. I'll find the one who did this" she said with an unnconvincing smile, to get stronger she'd do everything herself. Her ribbon turned a darker shade of red. Her face faintly turning white.

"...Wait a tick." He held up the Scroll so Solar could see, her picture sitting right next to his on the roster. "Are you...?"
Her curious nature pulled her back to him. "Yup that's me, and that's you! And the sand guy from earlier and... Maena came running into the alley "and you!

The chances of something like this happening in the first place were exceptionally low, and Sean had to wonder how on earth three of them had managed to wander into the fray when the remaining one found herself in such trouble. Just trying to think about the odds gave him a headache that had nothing to do with the fact he was ingesting sugar on a recently emptied stomach (or at least, he was content to tell himself they were unrelated).

"Well," His gaze went from Solar -- who looked like she was getting ready to faint -- to Maena. "This is... unexpected." He glanced back down at the  screen and noted the words 'Team Leader' next to Solar's name. She wouldn't be leading anyone anywhere if she ended up put away for a crime she didn't commit, that's for sure.

"Solar Raise," He looked to the Faunus girl with the broken horn and then the newcomer, holding his Scroll out so Maena could see it. "And Maena Nadir. Well then, I'm Sean Acacia, the explosive personality that our beloved academy wants you to keep an eye on. Much as we definitely need to do the whole meet-and-greet thing, I think we have bigger concerns at the moment, right?"

Suna's ears twitched at the sound of the door's bell. The shop was not in that great of shape, and yet considering the situation the building was in, a surprising amount of Dust was out in the open; Hemmer must be respected by the community or be a fearsome fellow to maintain a shop such as this. Maybe it was both.

His eyes, focused on the surroundings, went back to the man that was tending the counter who was quick to return his to his book upon Suna's arrival, further drawing intrigue from the hammer-dragging boy.

Suna made his way into the shop, a sizable glob of sand following him tasked with carrying and concealing the hammer. He perused the wares and noticed that every single weapon was Makarm'd; given the average quality of the weapons and the general upkeep of the shop, Suna wondered if there was even a point to it. If the place was actually making money, it was obviously going somewhere else.

He shook his head, pushing the thoughts out of his head for the time being and refocused on the task at hand. Suna found a sturdy-enough looking mace and approached the counter. "How much for the mace?" Suna asked as he held up the mace. "Oh, and did anyone get a hammer from you recently? I stumbled across one and was lookin' to get it back to its rightful owner".

Maena ran at very nearly top speed within the tight alleys, following the trail of dried, dark reddish brown blood that literally painted the path of the Faunus. She alternated between looking at the ground and in front of herself, coming close several times to sending someone flying or t-boning someone around a corner. When she finally turned into an exceptionally small alleyway and saw her target, along with one more person who'd been there, she was rather winded. She came to a halt and, bent in half, took her time to catch her breath. When it didn't quite feel like her lungs were on fire anymore, she stepped closer.

She was welcomed by... Sean? Was that his name? Showing him the same picture she'd received of Solar - except this time, she noticed the small 'leader' - while saying the ram Faunus' full name, followed by Maena's own name. She spoke up right after Sean. "Right, beginning with fixing Sol's wound ASAP. Second, you've gotta go back there and clear up the misunderstanding. I don't know what you did but I doubt you could get a place in an Academy as well as be mad enough to inflict bodily harm not only on others, but also on yourself."

Solar blinked at the two. She was supposed to be meeting her new team today. She gave up hope of that just before Sean came around and suddenly two of them appeared right before her. Hope was far from lost, she thought she was alone in this foreign city, I suddenly became a we. Sure she should probably should have got her injury better treated, or make an attempt at clearing up the misunderstanding. But there was something else she wanted to dosince this all started. "Nice to meet you Sean! Maena!" She said enthusiastically forcefullly shaking their hands with both hands, now accepting of them knowing they were to be on a team. "So we got off to kind of a rough start but like you said Sean said we've got a mystery to solve and a killer to catch! Though technically no one's been killed... she said pausing her enthusiasm. "And Maena thats's a great idea we'll start by checking the scene of the crime!" she declared entirely missinterpreting her words. Her eyes sparked with a hunger to learn why and who did this. Completely forgetting she was the number one suspect she started leading the two back the way they came.

"Now hear me out for a second, I've been selling weapons for a while now and I can generally tell in a man's eyes whether they're gonna use them for good or ill. I know, I know if they're bad why do you sell them you might ask? Well I've got to make a living allright? and if they didn't buy them from me they would've from somwhere else" the man explained, it seemed this would take a while.

With my baby and you found it? I won't ask what he did but if your looking for the man here you go" he said as he wrote down some directions on a piece of paper and slid it to Suna. "Your doing great things boy see to it justice is- a loud firey explosion interrupted him from somewhere in the back of the shop. Fragments of dust sparkled from a door behind the counter. "Mr.Hemmer! I did it again! whined a feminine voice from the direction of the explosion. The man confirmed as Makar Hemmer sighed as his face drooped "Good Luck kid!" Sean's eyes went from Solar to Maena, surprise and concern writ clear in his gaze. He quickly fell into step behind Solar. "Whoa, you may just wanna rethink that, chief." The fact that he -- usually the wild and reckless one in any group -- was suddenly the voice of reason was as surprising to the desert rat as it would've been to anyone that knew him. "One: I called in the city's medical responders when I saw the state that one guy was in, so the 'scene of the crime' is going to be full of very official people soon, all of whom can very officially arrest us. Two: even if we get in first, remember the guy with the giant hammer? Which brings up three: you're looking a bit pale... like, 'lost too much blood' pale. Has your Aura even recovered yet?"

"Let me propose an alternative. Even if you'd rather not see a doctor we should get you patched up; I've got some medical supplies back at my place, plus a means of getting us around quickly. You and I should move carefully for right now, seeing as we'll both be wanted in connection with..." He waved his hands in the general direction of the house. "Whatever that bloody mess was back there. I can pull together a few disguises -- won't be the first time -- and we can investigate on the sly while Maena and" He glanced at his Scroll for the name of their last remaining team member. "Suna do the more out-in-the-open work. We find the real culprit, clear our names... then maybe grab some food and laugh about how crazy all this is. Sound good?"

Suna was about to tell Mr. Hemmer that unfortunately his flimsy wallet wasn't prepared to make such a purchase, but Suna's remark about the hammer seemed to spark something within the smith and he didn't have the chance to utter a single word. When all was said and done, Suna stood in front of the counter, alone and speechless, trying to come to terms with all the information he had been told. Assuming Mr. Hemmer wasn't leading him along like a rat in a maze, this meant that the ram girl was clean, and judging by the damage to her horn, she could have very well been another victim.

He whipped out his scroll and immediately searched up the name he had been given. Among the science-related results were articles that, in full, detailed the man's public criminal history; this corroborated with Mr. Hemmer's story. Suna replaced his scroll and brought up some sand onto the counter, rearranging it into a little note:

sorry
my pockets ain't that deep

He returned the mace from where he found it before stepping back out into the sun, his glob of sand following suit.

Suna stared at the paper he had been given: a set of directions to Truer's location. He traced the path in his head while simultaneously recollecting the day's events. The gears in his head turned for a few moments before suddenly stopping, the lightbulb in his head having switched on after connecting the dots; Unfortunately, it wasn't the kind of eureka moment that he was hoping for. Suna pulled up his hood and tightened it, making sure it wouldn't fall back easily, set up his sand parasol, and went on his way to find this Urethanes Truer.

Maena, somehow, wasn't entirely surprised by her leader's sudden mood shift. She returned the handshake with a smile, although not with as much force - or with quite the same toothy grin, for that matter. The smile, however, faded when Solar started enthusiastically trekking back the way they'd just come from, having seemingly forgotten over nine tenths of what had just transpired. She rapidly followed, quick to bring herself in step with the Faunus.

She was just about to open her mouth, desiring to remind her most definitely pumped teammate of the reason that had caused her to leg it not five minutes ago when Sean also caught up and spoke. A lot. Not filler content, mind you, but all the well-articulated points Maena could've thought about and more, which she certainly wouldn't have expanded on as much. "Sean has good points, Sol. Not only do you need to get checked up, I don't know if you remember, but the guy you just ran away from is still seething and probably wants to tear your horn off completely 'cause he's certain you did the same to his little brother."

It wasn't far to Sean's place, at least not along the route he guided Solar. Had one stuck to the main footpaths it would've been almost half an hour at even a decent jogging pace, but by cutting through back-alleys (and the occasional back yard) he knew he could trim off a solid ten minutes or more. Still, to the ram Faunus it would've seemed like Sean was guiding her through an urban labyrinth -- he made a mental note as they went that teaching Solar the back ways and shortcuts of Vacuo would have to be something of a priority where team-building was concerned.

Finally, they emerged from the shade of alleyways into the back end of a large parking lot. There were a handful of vehicles parked around in various states of repair: a rugged caravan hauler with a battle-damaged side plate removed, a jeep with its back half covered by a drop cloth, half a dozen desert-ready motorbikes just waiting to sell, and the hollow frame of a half-built dune racer. The lot was big enough to serve as a landing pad for smaller airships; way off on the other end was the main garage and office that his uncle ran, but Sean led Solar off to the far side of the lot where an oversize storage shed sat flanked by an industrial-size metal shipping container.

"Welcome to my place, such as it is." Opening a regular-size door set into the huge barn doors of the shed, Sean stepped inside and gestured around. The space was cobbled together: a bedroll on top of metal crates, an improvised cooking area that abruptly turned into a workshop space, odds and ends scattered around seemingly at random, and all of it accented with the lingering odor of motor oil. He directed her to where the long three-person backseat of a minivan rested against the wall. "Make yourself comfortable while I grab the med kit, ok?"

To his credit, the boy worked quick -- rubbing alcohol was used to sterilize the wound and, after a quick search on his Scroll for treatment recommendations, carefully splinted the area around the break before wrapping it in gauze. "A broken horn is a lot like a broken bone -- even with a minor break you should avoid moving it or applying pressure until it heals." Tying off the gauze, he looked over the bandaging and gave a satisfied nod. "At least, that's what the med site I searched up said. Your Aura should handle the rest over time, just eat & drink a bit extra to help make up for the blood loss."

"Right, so..." He grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge and offered one to Solar. "Clearing our names. You said someone just suddenly attacked you, clean outta the blue, then ran off and led you into that house, right? Was anything happening before that, anything at all unusual?"

Suna barely caught Sean and Solar's departure as he rounded the corner of the alleyway; he and Maena were the only ones remaining. He was unsure of what to do next, mostly in regards to the girl that clearly did not like him. Well, none of them really left a good impression on Suna: of the other two, one threw up almost immediately then booked it, and the other is a suspect of a nasty crime.

Trying to act while the girl's attention was on the departers, Suna released the sand from his control. He reached down and put his hand against it, coating his palm with a very thin layer of sand, before picking up the hammer. Still within his grasp, Suna made his way toward the exit of the alleyway.

Maena said "Don't worry, I'll make sure to come get you guys first.", smiling, before turning away and back towards the - now rather old - trail of blood. She would've started to follow it once again right away if not for Suna's unexpected appearance in the vicinity. He was carrying the hammer in his hands this time, albeit with some sort of sand glove. Good thought, wouldn't mess too much with the fingerprints that way. Probably. If there were any. As to what he was doing, fuck if she knew.

The moment passed and she started her trek back to the heavily damaged house. She'd probably have to respond to Gul's nagging first, which ought to be the toughest part. After that, ask questions of them two and look around a bit for hints on what exactly happened there...

She began to contemplate ditching him behind the next turn until she came accross Sean's parking lot of vehicles. Solar was a kid in a candy shop, her eyes sparkled with fascination as she fawned over the many machines that lay around the lot. She touched, fiddled, and climbed on top of anything that remotely interested her. Most of all were the motor-bikes that caused an explosion of curiosity. "Wow cool! How fast do these go? She resigned to continue following Sean deeper into his home and settled down on one of the car seats in the minivan. She let him work on her horn and made herself as still as possible to make it easy for Sean, she was used to someone treating her injuries. Accepting the water, the bottle didn't leave her lips once until all the water was drained as she greedily chugged the entire thing. So there was no warning, nothing unusual... Sean mulled that over for a few moments. "Yeah, sounds like you got set up, boss." It wasn't unheard of for local criminals to lure in passers-by to take the blame for a crime while they made their getaway, though Solar's scenario was far more extreme and violent than most. There were still details that didn't add up, though -- the blow to Solar's horn made sense as a way to bait her into a chase, but then the violent trauma to the Faunus in the house...

... something else was going on here. Sean couldn't help but think that the violence Solar stood wrongly accused of wasn't the only crime needing to be solved.

"Sounds like we're dealing with someone who's fast and nimble... so, we'll need to outmaneuver 'em." Sean grinned ear to ear. "Fortunately, I've got just the thing. C'mon, I'll introduce you."

Leading Solar out of the "apartment", Sean unlocked the cargo container around back. "Unfortunately my uncle owns all the bikes, so unless you've got a big stack of lien to buy one I won't be able to get you on one without his say-so. However," He undid the lock on the doors and swung them wide open. "You won't need one, not today."

"Solar, meet the unofficial fifth member of your team: Gust Raider." He gestured to the modified dune buggy, grinning proudly. "Not only is she fast and nimble like our perp, she has a custom Dust injection system and a catapult mode... and yes, I will show you how to drive it. Just promise me you'll be careful with her, eh?" He then went for a large box in the back of the container, rummaging for a moment before laying out a few desert-colored ponchos and hooded cloaks, an assortment of bandannas, and a pair of dark-tinted driving goggles. "Pick out what you want for a disguise -- they're clean, I promise. Then we'll be set to poke around at the scene of the crime."

Suna made sure to keep his eyes focused on the path ahead of him as he walked toward and then past Maena. He could hear her leave the alleyway in the opposite direction of both him and the other pair. He hoped that she wasn't intending to revisit the scene of the crime.

Once he felt that it was safe to do so, Suna let the sand and hammer fall away from his hand and he resumed dragging it behind his person. He paused as he reemerged from the darkness of the alleyway and evaluated his surroundings. Suna glanced at the piece of paper once more. "This is going to be a while...," he muttered.

Maena slowed down upon hearing voices and ended up stopping short, hiding in a shadowy space between two buildings. She listened intently, trying to gain information from the questioning. When the police would come out, she'd have to intercept them to try and clear up her leader a bit... At least make her into a probable victim instead of a mere suspect.

There was Gul, too. He was definitely set on pinning the blame on the ram Faunus. After the police, dealing with him would be the toughest thing, especially since he'd want to know why she hadn't caught Solar.

The end result was dark tinted goggles that covered her eyes, a face mask that covered everything below that, and a brown hooded cloak that hid her whole body. But the hood was meant for a human head and would not fit over Solar's horns, she tugged and pulled at the hood until it somehow finally fit over her head, not realizing the sides of the hood had ripped enough to let her horns slide through so they stuck out of the hood anyway. She herself didn't understand why her disguise would be completely uselss to anyone looking for her. Satisfied she hopped in the dune buggy and landed herself in the passenger side. Sean couldn't help raising a bemused eyebrow at their fearless leader's idea of a disguise -- it would work, sure... as long as nobody paid attention to those horns protruding from the hood. At this point, though, it really couldn't be helped; if they waited around here much longer the academy or the cops might come'a calling, so it was indeed time to get moving. Quickly slinging on a poncho and green bandana to cover his mouth, the boy of many explosions hopped into the driver's seat, buckled in, and started Gust Raider up. The engine growled as it came to life, sliding into a steady purr after a second or two.

"Hang onto your horns, boss." Was all the advice Sean gave before flooring it, sending the dune buggy practically leaping out of its roost and onto the parking lot before peeling off down the nearby side-road.

Getting back to the scene of the crime was a quick and easy matter -- doing it without being spotted was another thing. Sean had pulled off into one of the larger alleyways as they'd gotten close, being careful not to draw attention. Once parked, he pulled out his Scroll and dialed Suna and Maena on a group call. "Hey, so... rough start, right? Hellova team meet-up. Sorry I didn't stick around to say 'hi' earlier Suna, but this situation's a little bit crazy." He looked over at Solar. "Where do we stand right now? I've got Solar here and she is keen to clear her name. Any thoughts?"

The house was sketchy--the typical abode of underground criminals. Suna took a deep breath to prepare for his entrance, but before he could take a step towards the door, his scroll began to vibrate. He brought it out and saw that it was a number he didn't recognize.

["Hey, so... rough start, right? Hellova team meet-up. Sorry I didn't stick around to say 'hi' earlier Suna, but this situation's a little bit crazy. Where do we stand right now? I've got Solar here and she is keen to clear her name. Any thoughts?"]

It took Suna a second to register what was happening? Team...?" he muttered under his breath in a lapse of concentration. He refocused himself. "So the ram's name is Solar, huh? And she's with you?" A small number of sand particles floated around Suna's person. "I'm going to ping you location. Come if you want. I don't have time to wait for you guys to arrive, though." Suna swiped away from the call and sent a ping to the group. He walked up to the door and looked around to make sure the coast was clear before dropping his scroll into the sand, covering it with his semblance. He added much more sand to his hammer escort, took a deep breath, and turned the doorknob.

Yeah, that was an area he tended to avoid -- the word to be heard was that bad things happened in that neighborhood, though specifics varied wildly from one story to another. 'Figures... nothing's ever easy.'

Fortunately, most of what Solar was fiddling with wouldn't do anything while the buggy idled in park... right up until she found her way to the Dust switches. Sean wasn't quite fast enough to intercept as she moved her hand there -- in the space between her flipping the switch and him flipping it back a plume of activated ice Dust coughed out of the rear exhaust and covered several feet of alleyway behind them in a slick sheen of frost.

"That would be the Dust injection I mentioned." He sighed, wondering how someone who didn't even know what a Scroll was would be able to manage a team. Still, he'd take Solar's ignorance over the drill sergeant type leader he'd been expecting. "We definitely gotta work on your knowledge base, boss. Here's the short version:" He pointed to his Scroll. "This does lots of different things, but the big one is it lets people talk to each other over long distances. I'm guessing Shade has one for you -- if not, we can get you a basic one fairly cheaply. They also," He held up the screen for her to see, displaying the map ping Suna had sent. "Work as a map -- Suna and I just talked, and it sounds like he's following a lead at this place. We should probably see what he's found, eh?"

"And as for these," He gestured to the buttons and switches on Gust Raider, resetting a few as he did. "I promise I'll go over every single one when we get around to having you drive, ok?" He was suddenly very grateful he put a pressure sensor into the driver's seat, as Solar changing the vehicle into catapult mode while they were both inside it would be... distinctly not good.

Slowly backing out of the alley -- to the sound of crunching ice beneath tires -- Sean just had to ask the inevitable question. "Where are you from, by the way? A long, loooong ways outside the kingdoms, I'm guessing?"

Even making good time, Sean and Solar wouldn't arrive until several minutes after Suna's entry into the booby trapped house. Dismounting the vehicle (and pulling out the key for good measure), Sean readied his grenade launcher as he surveyed the run down, dilapidated area. "I've heard bad things about this part of the city... we'd better be careful."

Suna nearly swore at the bang but was immediately interrupted by an intruder that wasn't himself. Dazed from the explosion, it took a moment for him to stumble out of the house before he gave chase to his assailant.

Ah, shit. Well, she still had to see this through, if only to get at Gul right after and check the surroundings. She made sure her face was serious. "Yes, but that was the first time I'd met her. She's Solar Raise, first year at Shade and leader of team Summer."

The chase was on, the small cloaked figure ran off sprinting leaving a trail of dust clouds behind. Turning at every possible corner, ducking and weaving through alley ways, the tan colored cloak was clearly not interested in being caught. But the runner didn't slow down, upon reaching the vehicle they jumped on top of it and with great agility, bounced between the walls jumping off them and grabbed onto the buildings roof, pulled themself up and continued to run, the cloaked figure was now running away on the rooftops of the buildings.

An isolated village cut off from the world at large by ridiculously strong Grimm? As Sean drove, thinking about where Solar came from suddenly helped a great many things to make sense. "Well then, when this is over we'd best get you up to speed on the outside world." Thinking back to the incident with the lollipop, he had to wonder what other modern marvels she was unfamiliar with. Ice cream? Pizza? Videogames? Oh, introducing Solar to modernity was gonna be fun...

And abruptly, the chase was on! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSJLqTiLj8k)

With Solar and her attacker already bounding across the rooftops, it looked like Sean was going to fall behind -- especially as he rushed to trade out the ammo drum he had loaded for one marked with an ice crystal. However, the young grenadier had a few tricks up his sleeve; stripping off his gloves and shoving them into his pockets, he slapped his hands onto the undersides of his boots, leaving a faintly glowing imprint on each one. Flashing a quick smile and mock salute Suna's way, he crouched, braced... and then snapped his fingers and leapt upwards like a goddamn rocket. The extra push from his Semblance was enough to gain some good height, reaching the halfway to the rooftops in one go and carrying the momentum into a quick series of wall kicks before scrambling up alongside Solar to give chase.

"Hey, you!" Taking aim, Sean fired an ice grenade that overshot the target by about six feet, just enough for the flash freeze zone to be right in front of them when it went off. With any luck that would force the escapee to halt or at least pause, but Sean was ready to make his next shot not a warning if the target continued to run. "We'd like a word!"

Running into Sean and Solar, Suna was confident that the culprit was done for, but their sudden acrobatics caught him off guard. Wasting no time, Suna did his best to copy the maneuver. He launched himself off the vehicle, and using the support of his sand, made his way up the wall, very nearly clutching the edge of the roof when his fingers slipped away and that familiar sense of dread filled him.

This momentary sense of dread triggered something in him and a tower of sand shot up off the ground, knocking into Suna with a great force and sending him flying onto the roof. Suna hadn't expected that to happen himself as evidenced by his horizontal landing. He gt back to his feet as quickly as he could, but he knew that he had lost a ton of momentum. Still, it seemed like eh had the support of those strangers so he continued on after the cloaked figure.

The runner upon reaching the ice, threw their momentum forward and stopped running, slipping their way to the edge of the roof and neatly lept off on to the next one. 'Oh crap -- not good!' Sean thought, seeing their target outmaneuver them and his teammates end up in an uncontrolled slide due to his miscalculation. Solar was headed over the edge at full speed and taking Suna with her, and the pale-skinned smuggler only had a second to figure out what he was gonna do -- otherwise all three were going to end up in a pile while their target put distance between them.

How did today end up so crazy again?

There was no avoiding the ice patch without losing time, and clearly the opposition had the advantage over them when it came to dexterity. He tried to angle himself so that he'd be parallel to Solar and Suna, then flung himself onto his back to hit the ice and slide feet first. If he was lucky he could hit the other rooftop, roll, and run... but he had a terrible suspicion trouble was waiting for them on the other side. If he was in the mysterious cloaked troublemaker's shoes, it was hard to imagine a better opportunity to turn an escape into an ambush than this. Sean gripped Tempestas Telum firmly as the ledge approached; no more warning shots, this time he'd put that bastard on ice the first chance he got.

Suna managed to keep on his feet, which was a feat all things considered, but that was about it. By the time he had stabilized himself enough to shift his focus elsewhere, Solar immediately knocked both of them over the edge of the building. His mouth opened as if to say something but nothing came out, his body instead moving on its own. Suna reached out and grabbed Solar, bringing her closer to him, and used what was left of his concentration to reactively bring up as much sand as he could to cushion their fall.

His sand packed a punch, much more than intended. The hit knocked Solar and Suna off to the side, but their vertical velocity had been reduced nonetheless. He hit the ground with a small thud and laid still for a moment before the entire situation came back to him. Suna shot up and looked back up at the roof where Sean now was. He turned his attention back in the direction of the cloaked figure and he went off, looking for a way to get back onto the rooftops.

Despite the opportunity for the pursued to ambush their pursuer, the cloaked figure did not take it. Instead only continuing to flee and put as much distance from the group as possible. Being the only one to not fall from the buildings, Sean at the moment was the closest to the target

"Waargh!" Solar cried out as she tumbled off the building with Suna. She steeled herself for the fall but found her fall suddenly broken by a tower of sand. "Wow cool you did that?" Solar asked rhetorically at Suna. She was always jealous of flashy semblances and in this situation she felt she had to show Suna what she was also capable of. Because of her own clumsiness not only did she lost distance to their target but she ended up dragging Suna down with her.

So she moved.

A glow of orange emanated from her hands and her feet, she ran along side Suna for a moment to let herself charge."Sandy! Catch him for me will you?" Solar said to Suna, never having introduced to each other she remembered his picture on the team but forgot his name. With a yank Solar grabbed Suna by the Collar and with the force of an explosion both Solar and Suna were suddenly thrown into the air by the charge from her feet. Now airborne Solar had a clear view of the cloak and Sean. "Fly!" Solar cried and with the charge on her arms she threw Suna at the cloak making him a human projectile.
Before she could see where Suna landed, gravity took hold and Solar fell to the ground with a hard bounce. "Ow forget about that" she said to herself and she rubbed her lower back where she landed. She had to wait for her strength to return for a moment before she could continue to follow after Sean, her breathing was heavy and her body wouldn't listen but she noticed the police vehicle that suddenly pulled right along side her.
"Ha! that was easy your under arrest" the Officer declared as he reached for his handcuffs.

Well... this was a pickle.

On the one hand, the fact that a counterattack hadn't hit as he'd rolled to his feet was lucky -- apparently the mystery jerk in the cloak was less interested in picking a fight than they were in escaping, and while that was all good it also opened up a whole bunch of questions, given how this scuffle had started out. On the other, he was now down his teammates and... oh, wait, wasn't that one of them? That body literally launched through the air at whomever they'd been pursuing? The hows and whys of his barely-met teammate becoming a living torpedo didn't have time to percolate in Sean's mind as he broke into a full-speed sprint to try and regain lost time. No, no time to ask 'what the hell?' right now; his mind, in full-on skirmish mode, focused on the fact that he couldn't open fire right now without the risk of hitting his scarf-wearing ally.

That was the problem with a Semblance and weapon that focused on blowing shit up: if the enemy was more mobile, you either had to go big or go home. Going big right now would cause FAR too much collateral -- who knew how many people lived in the houses under these rooftops, after all -- and going home... well, it was already a bit late to go home. Plus, Sean could hear police sirens in the background. Shit. It was nab the perp now or end up in a world of trouble.

He still had plenty of shots in the cylinder. Moving as fast as his legs would carry him, Sean watched to see how things would unfold. At this point, if a clean shot presented itself he was going to put this pain-in-the-ass on ice.

Suna would've complimented Solar on her aim. but the situation left his thoughts nice and scrambled. For the few seconds he was given in the air, he did his best to recompose himself, but by his straight crashing into the cloaked figure, it was obvious that he'd failed. The impact hurt, through it would've hurt a lot more had Solar missed; he'd thank her later.

They both skid off the rooftop and crashed onto the hard ground below. Suna laid disoriented for a moment before looking around with blurred vision, his hands reaching for the cloaked figure that should've been beside him.

Alright. That was it. Maena had had enough of this condescending fucktard of an excuse of a police officer. After getting out after him and making sure nobody was looking, she swung her tonfa right at the back of the guy's head to knock him out cold. If anyone asked, some guy who dislikes authority probably did a hit-and-run on him while everyone else was busy.

That much done, she briefly took in the situation. The culprit was apparently running, Solar had just jumped up way too high and thrown someone - Suna, it seemed - towards the runner. Well, there was only one thing to do.

She took a deep breath - in, out - and took right off after the cloaked figure, her hair trailing behind. She was running on all cylinders and ready for anything.

Trying to pry out of Suna's grip unsuccessfully the culprit looked to be on the verge of tears at the prospect of whatever fate waited her. "I didn't want to and besides she still has it doesn't she!? AAAhh! Please just let me goo!"  wailed the culprit. Her clothes were tattered, old, and clearly unkempt for, her hair was similarly in a short but unclean state. A pair of well-worn gloves and heavily used running shoes adorned her hands and feet.

Solar's aim had been true, and Suna had not only landed a direct hit but unmasked their culprit! Now, finally, they were getting somewhere. Clearing Solar's name (and by extension, his own) was a step further down the road, but this was certainly progress. Slowing his pace -- and keeping a wary eye on this mystery girl -- Sean kept his weapon out but not pointed as he took up a spot about seven feet from Suna and little miss swift-legs.

She 'didn't want to'... oh, how that phrase made the blonde's mind sour. If true, it meant this girl had been put up to this -- at the very least the 'running away' part, if not the 'attacking and framing a complete stranger' -- by someone else, and that meant the trouble was only just getting started. If it was a lie... well, proving it out would be troublesome in much the same way. "Look, kid, we're gonna need a lot more to go on than that. My friend, the one with the ram's horns? She's accused of attempted murder, and I ain't about to just let that slide. So... why don't you take a seat and explain all of this from the top, hm?" He cast a look Suna's way that basically said 'be careful of this one'; there was no way to know if all this was just an act, and the way she'd moved earlier suggested she wasn't just "some kid causing trouble for laughs".
Title: Re: Bone of the First [SSMR]

Even in his dazed state, Suna found the culprit's statement rather peculiar. He wondered if this girl really could've been the attacker of both the ram Faunus and the Faunus from the house. He maintained a solid grip on her, and when he'd finally regained his senses, he made a cocoon of sand around him, her, and Sean with a hole left at the top to shine line upon the culprit. Upon close inspection of the hole, the cocoon was a few centimeters thick.

With the threat of escape gone, he let go of the culprit despite Sean's look of concern. Still, he remained cautious in his mind. Taking a good look at her, she looked like the common street rat. If she's as dangerous as Sean thinks, then there is a clear discrepancy between her appearance and her capabilities. Perhaps it was purposeful.

"Yeah, relax. Take a seat," Suna said as he gave more thought into what she'd just said. "If it wasn't your idea, then whose was it? And while you're at it, what do you mean by 'she still has it'? Do you mean her horns?"

...That said, she glanced to the police officer, just to make sure he was out cold, before waving a hello to Solar. Damn that rash behavior of hers. No, knocking the officer out didn't count in Maena's case; he had it coming for minutes.

Catching up to the group Solar came across the dome of sand and Maena standing guard in front of it. Solar reached through her memory to remember her name...and failed What was her name again?...Something with an M...Ma....May? "Hey May did we get him? Is he in here?" Solar asked referring to the sand. "Hey you get out of there!" without waiting Solar started clawing and digging on the sand.

Despite being trapped, the thief scrambled away from the two and attempted to dig herself out of the sand. Only to stop when she could hear Solar angrily doing the same on the opposite side.  "Hey you get out of there!" she paused and faced Sean and Suna with an expression that looked like it was about to cry again, apparently deciding escape was futile and it was the lesser of two evils.

"If it wasn't your idea, then whose was it? And while you're at it, what do you mean by 'she still has it'? Do you mean her horns?"

"W-What else would I have taken? Isn't this what this is about? As for who, I c-can't say or he'll come back to hurt me"

Shit.

It was the little things that clued Sean in. This girl was either a fantastic actress... or the entire chase just now had all been a diversion. He'd spent his entire life in Vacuo and knew how the city worked; there were plenty of petty thieves who would steal just so they could have something to eat each day, so many that good thieving opportunities often got scarce. When pockets couldn't be picked and market stalls were too closely watched a lot of the most desperate turned to doing odd jobs... and not the sort that asked you to fill out a resume. Hungry thieves commonly became 'runners', doing in-city smuggling or -- in cases like this -- acting as decoys for other criminals. She had the moves, the practiced finesse up on the rooftops. He should've seen it sooner.

Hooking a thumb in the direction of Solar's voice, Sean decided he'd shift to 'good cop' a bit. "Her? Naw. But the guy who hired you..." He leaned forward, hoping to project just a hint of menace. "Different story." It was an exaggeration, of course, but the injury that Solar was falsely accused of causing was bad enough that the intent probably was to kill. "Types like that don't like loose ends. That's why he set my angry friend up to take the blame. So... what do you think he'll do to you?" He let the question hang in the air, then glanced Suna's way. Hopefully he knew how the 'good cop bad cop' thing worked -- it was his turn now.

Suna stared blankly back at Sean for a few seconds before the light flickered on in his head. He shot his own look back at Sean that said "Seriously?". Suna huffed out from his nostrils and turned back to the girl. "You. Are. Expendable. Not just you. All of you shifty critters scurrying around the city. Don't think you're safe just because you're keeping your mouth shut," Suna said as he slowly shrunk the space within the dorm and narrowed the hole letting the light in. "Not from us. Not from him." He paused. "The man who tried to kill us when he found the victim. Just imagine what he'd do if he just happened to find out that you were keeping your mouth shut." Suna removed the top of his mace, taking care not to activate it, and dropped it in the sand. He casually covered it up with his semblance. "Better yet, how about the associates of every victim. The cops won't, and can't, protect you so when someone vindictive enough comes along...," he knelt down, revealed the head of his mace from the sand, stood back up, and examined it closely. "When I become a full-fledged scavenger, I may one day find a piece of you out in the wasteland."

He firmed his grip on the mace head. "So instead of wasting our time trying to save yourself from what could be inevitable, just spill it."

While continuing to scan the surroundings, including the 'sleeping' cop, she passed her hand around Solar's waist, pulling her away from the sand shelter. "Yes, yes, we've caught her. Now, how about you let the boys handle the interrogation? They're a bit more cool-headed than you right now."

"Cool-headed!? That rat almost broke my horn and ran off! No one touches my horns and gets away with it! Lemme go! I'll beat him to a pulp!" Solar  angrily shouted at the sand while struggling to get out of Maena's grasp. Solar's tantrum added to the attention the group was attracting, a dome of sand, Solar yelling at it, and Maena stopping her, more and more heads turned in confused looks what was going on.

As Suna went on, the tears in the little thief's eyes pooled up and eventually dripped down her face. She quickly reached for something behind her and threw it at Suna and Sean before scrambling away and continued to claw and dig at the wall of sand. The object that landed at the pair's feet was a small box shaped radio. A switch was flipped on the device making a beeping noise with a flashing yellow light. The noise and the light immediately cut out to be replaced by a green light and a voice

"You better have it if your calling, you know what happens otherwise don't you?"

Sometimes it really, really sucked to be right.

Glancing at Suna in a 'keep an eye on this gizmo' sort of a way, Sean reached down and was just about to pick it up when it crackled to life and a voice issued from it. Communicator, eh? Probably a radio, given the looks of it. The smuggler, after examining it a moment, picked the device up and pushed what looked like the 'talk' button.

"Nope, not a clue. Very curious to find out, however." He let a hefty dose of smug seep into his voice -- in moments like these, projecting confidence could make or break things. He made a gesture with his free hand for the girl to keep quiet; now was the time to see how far he could carry this 'good cop' routine. "Your patsy dropped this, by the way; she's a slippery one, but it's just a matter of time until we catch her. You picked a fight with the wrong group today." It was a bluff, of course; if the employer realized that thief-girl had already been captured she'd become expendable -- hell, taking her "out of the picture" might just become the behind-the-scene boss' priority. Making it seem like she was still at large not only protected the girl, it gave this team a possible opening they could use. Sean was no tactician, but he did have the street savvy to think on his feet and throw in a misdirect. "So why not make this easy? Turn yourself in, admit to assaulting those people, and you'll avoid the painful beat-down we're going to dump on your sorry ass."

Suna huffed as Sean proceeded to respond back to the man. While what he said to the little thief had been harsh, it was true. Suna waited until Sean was finished talking before speaking up, making sure that his finger was off the button of the radio.

"Boss man won't let a pawn's mistakes go unpunished, even if it wasn't the truth. If he didn't have a target over her head before, now he does." While Suna happened to be playing the "bad guy" role throughout this entire fiasco, he did intend to keep the runt safe for as long as he believed her to be mostly innocent. Suna turned to get and said, "We need you to take us to him. I'll give you my cloak if you do." His cloak, while a bit worn, was still in better condition than the runt's, and he also figured that she'd need a change in wardrobe to disguise herself just in case.

Maena's one comment doused Solar's rage like water over a fire. "Really!? You think so? They are kinda cool right? Sometimes they can get in the way like wearing hats or helmets, but they make a great weapon!" Solar said blushing slightly from the off hand compliment.

"So why not make this easy? Turn yourself in, admit to assaulting those people, and you'll avoid the painful beat-down we're going to dump on your sorry ass."

"Well your obviously not the pipsqueak, and who exactly are you? my imagination is going wild with possibilities right now; an angry mob gang is my

What's my name?

Come on don't disappoint me it's so nice to be recognized even in this backwater kingdom"
as the voice went on the disguised voice changed to that of a male voice that radiated a kind of smugness that came from royalty.

Despite Suna'a kind gesture the thief was preoccupied with digging her way out of the sand. She paused for a moment to look at him with a scarred look only to turn back around and resume her work.

Sean listened as the voice on the radio shifted from distorted and disguised to something far more identifiable -- male, entitled, and too smug by half. Whoever was on the other end was playing dumb; the smuggler didn't for one moment believe that this mysterious voice person hired the thief-girl but had nothing to do with the assault on Solar, nor was he quite buying the whole foreign male princeling business. Sean was, after all, a mechanic and a tinkerer -- voice modulators were a bit outside his field of expertise, true, but he knew that they could be pretty convincing at disguising people's voices, and this smelled of a false lead. Fake or not, however, there was one thing he had that was concrete and factual: the device in his hand. He looked it over a bit more in depth as the voice continued to rant and rave, making careful note of the design. If he could get it open, take a look at the components... he could probably determine the range and whether or not it was designed to signal-boost via the CCT tower. If it was, as Sean suspected, short range only...

"Again: don't know but very eager to find out." Sean spoke into the radio. "You talk big and tough, but I'm willing to bet it's all talk -- nothing but empty words. If you'd care to prove me wrong, though, why not come find me? I'll bet you're already running an ID on my voice, so I'll make it nice and easy for you: I'm Sean Acacia, and I really, really enjoy blowing shit up. Maybe I'll find your shit and blow some of it up, eh? Sounds like a good time from where I'm standing. Care to try me, rich boy?"

Yes, he was making himself a target, but it was probably the best option at this point for drawing out the anonymous troublemaker. Solar was probably already a known entity for this guy, and the police search for both Solar and himself was essentially public knowledge at this point. As long as Suna and Maena could avoid the spotlight then their group still had an advantage or two...

Suna sighed at the rejection of his offer. He took a few steps towards the runt and gently grabbed the back of her collar, moving her away from the wall of the dome. "Stop that," he said as he maintained his grip, making sure that Sean was done talking so Suna couldn't be heard. "And don't make any more noise."

Suna sat back quickly, wondering who the man could possibly be before coming to the realization that, in the midst of this chaotic situation, he had come across a name. With his free hand, he brought out his scroll and on the screen was the information he had searched up earlier. Suna replaced it and took a step toward Sean, tugging the runt along with him, and snatched the radio from Sean's hands. He brought it up to his face and uttered a single word:

"Truer."

Maena was very glad her distraction had worked so well. It was a chance to talk to the only other girl in the team, too, so birds with one stone, right? "I'll say! I'm sure you can pack quite the punch with them.

By the way, how do you care for them? They've got a certain lustre to them, even." Briefly look around... all is well. Nobody suspicion in sight for now. Cop still dozing off. Sand tent... mildly innocuous? Not much she could do about that one, though.
