Title: AMCA if you're really that bored
Post by: Flooberoid on October 28, 2016, 08:14:31 PM
Yay for jumping on the bandwagon. This might be a way for me to get into the minds of my characters better, or it might just be a way for me to dick around when I get bored. You decide how you want to see it.

Feel free to direct your questions towards any characters I currently have approved at any given time, even if and in fact especially if I've made more since time of writing. Or, hell, if you want to really make me work you could just present a question to all 5+ of them.

What do your characters want more than anything else? What they truly, deeply, passionately desire.

Funny story! I wrote a response, real fleshed out and everything, hit preview, and then lost internet connection! And then everything was gone! SO enjoy this nerfed version because I don't want to type everything out again!

Hagane: "I dream of a world of order, where strong leaders are both transparent and accountable for their actions. In this world, people are unified by the common goal of bettering life for everyone, human or faunus."

Mint: "Hmm... Well, I really like to travel. Ooh, but it's not as fun if I don't have my friends with me. How about this: I want the means and the freedom to go wherever I want, whenever I want, and with whoever I want. Is that asking too much?"

Persimmon: "You know what they say: Lien makes the world go 'round. But I don't just want the money. I want the infamy of being the guy who stole it. I want to be a well-known and feared thief, known only by an alias and a calling card while I live a front life of luxury.
...You're not a cop, right?"

Carnation: "That's a tough one. Don't get me wrong, I want a lot of things. So many it's hard to pick just one. I guess what it boils down to is I want a world where people don't have to live in fear. Nobody's worried about crime, terrorism, Grimm, natural disasters, or anything like that. We all feel safe.
...andifyouhavesomecandytoothatwouldn'tgoamiss."

Opal: "I truly, deeply, passionately desire that you piss off! Why'd I even agree to be here?"

Diamante: "I wanna be moved back to Character Creation because I think I still need a second review."

For the record, the recent reviews to unclog the creation section have been group reviews done in staff chat, so the review is a reflection of most of the staff and doesn't need two reviews.

Oh cool, thanks for the clarification.

Now that I finally have some real downtime I've been going through the HTDG posts before Diana joined the team in detail, trying to create a mental picture but I've been struggling with the voices should go with each person. So I was wondering how you would describe your characters speech and mannerisms (Rough? musical? Loud? emotionful/less? use of gestures? etc). Obviously I'm most interested in Hagane but wouldn't mind hearing about your other characters too.

((Also sorry to everyone else who browses the recent posts thread like me as I've basically posted the same comment in three threads. I just love the AMA threads as a way to get more specifics about characters, or in this case teammates.))

((Don't apologize for asking questions in the AMA threads. xD))

I've never really tried to describe a voice in words, although I do have an idea of what each of my characters sounds like. I'll do my best I guess.

Hagane: Stoic and mature; masculine but not gruff.
Mint: Medium pitch, with a cheerfulness that makes everything sound like a joke.
Persimmon: Almost pointless to describe, since he uses different voices for every little act he puts on. But no matter what voice he's using, he'll always sound like he thinks his words are sooooo witty.
Carnation: Caring and motherly, though a tad louder than one would expect. Her voice manages to simultaneously exude patience and authority.
Lissa: Insufferably high-pitched and loud, when she's not giggling inanely.
Patchouli: Soft and slightly high pitched, although when she gets comfortable around people she gradually shifts to a normal speaking volume.
Diamante: High pitched like an anime fuckboi.
Dannum: Manly, gruff and loud. So loud.
Crystal (who I still need to put in my signature...): Cold and deliberate, and low pitched for a woman. Fiercely authoritative without a syllable out of place.

Hope that helps, or at least makes sense! ^^'

((You do raise an excellent point))

Yeah vocal description isn't something i've done much either but considering how much of this site is dialogue it actually seems kinda important. Besides nice to get some more info about the rest of team HTDG. Don't worry it both made sense and helped :D

For your characters, can you imagine what professions they could have followed other than becoming a hunter? (You do have quite a few so don't have to answer for all, though it provides some interesting insight into a character)

But I like answering for all of them! Appreciate you giving me something to do, too. :P

Hagane: "Had I not become a huntsman, I likely would have simply become a farmer or a fisherman. Something to provide for my family. But that possibility is long gone."
Mint: "I dunno, being a huntress was really the best way for me to go out and see the world with all these Grimm about. Maybe I could be a mercenary...? Or a traveling merchant might be a more realistic option, actually."
Persimmon: "I'd'a probably turned to thievery if the whole huntsman thing fell through. But that didn't happen. So I'm definitely not a thief. Got it?"
Carnation: "I would have simply carried on working for my parents' shop. We're quite successful, you know. I think someday I still will take over managing the place, when my parents aren't feeling up to it anymore."
Patchouli: "I mean, I've got a lot of random skills I picked up over the years... But if I had to pick another career, I probably would've stuck with acting."
Diamante: "I think I'd've probably stuck with my family's restaurant until I was like... early 20s maybe, then moved back to Atlas to work in weapons development. Anything to escape Sunny's constant teasing..." Although I guess I don't really mind it...
Dannum: "Ha! There's no other career for me!"

I find the AMAs to be really interesting, both for expanding on characters and learning about the users. So I like it quite a lot (Though admittedly not that many people post questions :P )

To go for a bit more of a meta question, when you designed your characters can you think of anything specific acted as the inspiration for a part of a character? Could be fictional or perhaps things that are from (or opposite) to your personality.

All of my student characters are based more or less on some aspect of my personality. I had one who wasn't at one point, but I didn't click with him and eventually scrapped him altogether (and formally asked a mod to delete him). Hagane also takes heavy inspiration from Yu Narukami, the main character of Persona 4.

As for the adult characters, I honestly created them just by starting to write and seeing what came out. The idea for making Crystal have prosthetic arms was inspired by Fullmetal Alchemist, though.

In particular, I consider these to be the main driving traits of each character:
Hagane is a logical problem solver and always thinks before he acts.
Mint is a born optimist who strives to experience as much as possible in her lifetime.
Persimmon is a sarcastic bastard who will bend or break the rules for his own version of justice.
Carnation... is my favorite color. To be honest that's it, and I built her character around a person I'd associate with that color, lol.
Lissa is... off her rocker.
Patchouli wants to make the most of her talents, but struggles due to a lack of self-confidence.
Diamante is an extreme hyperbole of my feminine side, actually. I've done and met criticism for enjoying a number of traditionally feminine things, such as painting my nails. Diamante takes this to its logical conclusion, being a man who anyone could mistake for a woman easily.

Awesome :D

Now that our team is officially initiated I wanted to expand on some of the things that will have happened between initiation and the next thread with some questions to the team (in separate threads because that's how the amas are). Anyhoo. What did Hagane bring to the dorm, what possessions would we find on his nightstand/desk/shelves that sorta thing?

Honestly the most notable thing about Hagane's dorm room would be how neatly organized everything is. He doesn't keep any mementos of his family, not really holding them dear. His wardrobe isn't exactly varied, being all whites, grays and blacks. He keeps canisters of liquid steel pushed up against the wall, and sealed containers of dust safely tucked away in labeled desk drawers. His shelves are nothing but textbooks and on his desk is a calendar and schedule keeping track of the tasks ahead. His neatness extends to other members, tending to organize their things if he feels they're making a mess and not really understanding privacy concerns.

And how does Hagane feel about the dorm situation, does he mind sharing a room like that (Care about sharing with both genders, is he particular about cleaning, sleep schedule etc.)

If you asked Hagane personally what his opinion of the dorms was, you'd get only confusion. He doesn't see it as any different from any other place to sleep. He sees it as a good way to stay close to his teammates. As mentioned previously, he'll clean up any mess he sees, even if it means messing with other people's things. However, he won't enforce his habits on anyone else, it's just a good idea to pick up after yourself if you don't want him touching your things. He won't demand that anyone sleep at a specific time, but he will expect them to be up for any events on their schedule, be it classes or missions or anything else. If they're too tired, that's their own fault.

Do you have a place where you're answering these same questions for Diana, by the way?

I'd love to and I do have my own ama thread, but figured it would be a bit weird for me to ask myself questions :P

Figure its time for another question for team HTDG, this one is a lot simpler but certainly, one that they would have asked each other.

Why did you want to become Huntsman (Asking for Hagane but feel free to respond with others as well).

As with all the best questions, I'll answer this one two months later. Don't worry, I've definitely been spending all this time giving it lots of thought.

Hagane became a Huntsman as sort of an honorable thing, out of disgrace for his parents who are irresponsible and cowardly.
Mint became a Huntress due to her interest in exploring and how relatively confined she was at home.
Persimmon became a Huntsman for glory. He wanted people to think he's a cool dude.
Carnation became a Huntress to protect people. It was her way of giving back to the community.
Lissa just always knew she was going to become a Huntress. It runs in the family and seemed like enough fun for her.
Patchouli read about the Huntsmen and even did a play on them, which eventually got her hooked.
Diamante has been experiencing the average person's work for ages thanks to his noodle shop and still does. He didn't like it. Fighting seemed more interesting.
