Approved Characters / Alban Inverno, Headmaster of Beacon Academy
« on: September 01, 2017, 03:21:43 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Alban Inverno

Age: 59, Born on the 23rd of Saaral, 20 AC

Gender and Species: Male Human

Symbol:

Occupation: Headmaster of Beacon Academy

Appearance: Alban is tall and well built. His black hair is combed back and has a few strands of grey just barely visible. Brown eyes look outward from his lightly scarred face. He is quite strong, especially considering his typical attire.

Alban wears a dark blue haori jacket, decorated with metal plates sewn along the bottom edges and sides. Shoulderpads cover his upper arms, leaving his lower arms to be guarded by light bracers. Under the jacket are some black pants with grey stripes going down the sides. His large boots are brown, covered in metal plates just the same as his jacket. A belt with several buckles ties everything together, matching the boots. A small hook hangs freely on the right side, and a small pouch on the left back, secured tightly. Finally, on his back rests a massive, single edged greatsword bearing no decorations beyond a simple crossguard.

When in a non-combat zone such as Beacon Academy, Alban wears a similar outfit, but with no metal plating attached to the clothing for added comfort. His weapon is always present, though.

History: Alban was born and raised in Vale, having attended Signal Academy with the desire to follow in his parents’ footsteps and become a huntsman. However as he spent time at Signal, he realized that he was more interested in teaching over fighting. While he proved himself quite capable of fighting, he worked to help others improve however he could, often forsaking his own grades to do so. In the end, Alban’s transcripts showed he graduated with only average combat marks, but very high academic marks.

Upon graduating, his academic marks got him a pass to Beacon, although just barely. Once assigned to his team, he became good friends with them all, graduating with high marks alongside them.

After graduation, Alban separated from his team and moved to Atlas to become an instructor at one of the academy’s there. While his first few years were uneventful, one event changed his life in many ways. While on a mission with a group of students to a lightly infested area, they nearly met their match when they found the reports of Grimm activity were very far off. Outnumbered and tired, with one of his four students dead already, they took refuge in an icy cave. The cave looked unnatural, perhaps man made, but there was little further evidence as they entered with no choice. Inside they held their ground against a hoard of Grimm for several hours before Alban passed out, having taken a critical blow to protect one of the two remaining students.

When he awoke, several days had passed. No Grimm were visible, but the frozen bodies of three students lay near him. And in his hand was a large sword, Rimeheart. They say the sword spoke to him in whispers on the snowswept plains, explained how it saved his life, but could not save the others. In the end, the students perished from Alban’s semblance freezing them, which shook Alban and almost forced him to quit teaching, but his new companion convinced him to stay. And so he did.

Four years passed there before he was offered a position at Beacon for the following year, which he happily accepted. On the fifth year away, he returned to meet with his old team and in the end join them again as instructors at Beacon. Over time, he has moved on to become Headmaster of the school.

Personality: While Alban is capable of being respectful and courteous when he must be, he is typically very blunt in his words and actions, as he believes that sugar coating things can let people believe they are doing better than they really are, which is obviously false. However, he always ensures his words are positive whenever possible, as degrading someone helps even less than lying to them.

In regards to his actions, Alban is always first in line to get something done. He never hesitates, and thanks to his experience and training, is an excellent decision maker and shot caller. This conflicts somewhat with his charge in attitude, however.

In combat, Alban fights very aggressively, almost savagely. He wastes no time on flair and displays of skill, focusing entirely on crushing his opponent. However, he doesn’t seek the thrill of a kill, and is still in control of himself, able to stay his blade as needed. He tries to fight alone when he can to keep his allies save from both his enemies, and himself. This personality has developed more recently, according to some that have known him in the past.

Combat Behavior
In combat, Alban fights very aggressively, almost savagely. He wastes no time on flair and displays of skill, focusing entirely on crushing his opponent. However, he doesn’t seek the thrill of a kill, and is still in control of himself, able to stay his blade as needed. He tries to fight alone when he can to keep his allies save from both his enemies, and himself.

Originally, Alban used a one hand sword and shield, able to switch the sword into a rifle for ranged attacks. His style focused on keeping the enemy in close range but remaining defensive and wearing the opponent out with a combination of blocks, attacks, and his semblance.

These days, Alban has forgone his old weapons and makes fast, powerful and often one-handed strikes with Rimeheart, a greatsword. He relies on his blade, semblance, and Aura to protect him while concentrating on a brutal assault of the enemies’ ranks. The combination of Alban and his weapon makes combat against him extremely difficult. This is worsened by his semblance, as prolonged battle within it will make the uphill battle a snowy one. And nobody likes going uphill in the snow.

-High Endurance
-High Amount of Aura
-Deceptively Strong
-Very Fast
-Excellent Sword Skills
-Extremely Powerful Weapon
-Seemingly impossible Reaction Time

In the rare cases where Alban has been seen in combat, he does not appear to leave any openings or have any weaknesses, not to the naked eye nor faunus eye.

Semblance: Chilblains: A freezing aura radiates from Alban, chilling a large area near him. The temperature within the field drops very sharply, and cold winds lightly blow throughout the area. It is generally uncomfortable upon entering the field, but staying within it for too long can prove deadly as creatures and objects will begin to freeze. Only Alban is excluded from this effect, meaning that it will affect his allies, making it difficult to use.

As the the field remains active, ice begins forming over Alban, granting him armor and increasing his defenses. A prolonged battle is ill advised. This aura field moves with Alban and has a 100 foot radius. It does not pass through solid objects, but can go around them. So someone behind a tree would not be protected, but a tent would keep the warmth inside for some time.

WEAPON

Name: Rimeheart

Storage Form: Rimeheart rests as a blade strapped to Alban’s back.

Primary Form: Rimeheart is a large, single-edged greatsword wielded mainly in Alban’s right hand. The design is extremely simple, bearing no marks on the blade or hilt. Particles of ice trail from the blade when swung.

Abilities: Rimeheart is capable of amplifying Alban’s semblance many times over and focusing it on a single point, causing anything struck by the blade to become flash frozen. This effect is often deadly to living creatures, but one’s aura can protect against the effect. Still, it is devastatingly powerful.

Much more dangerously, Rimeheart can magnify the intensity of Alban’s semblance a thousand times, flash freezing everything within the field in an instant. Alban becomes encased in ice at the same time due to his icy armor forming so rapidly. The ice will keep him protected from most attacks. This secondary ability is typically a last resort, due to the extreme danger for any allies in the area.

Alban can swing Rimeheart in an arc, causing the blade to release a crescent blade of ice that flies outward towards foes.

Rimeheart has another ability, which has yet to reveal itself.

History: Alban had Rimeheart forged by a smith in Atlas. He never explains any greater detail beyond that. The true history is largely unknown.

General Discussion / Want to donate money? Do so here!
« on: August 27, 2017, 06:35:31 PM »
Hello again! I am here with the collection hat looking for donations. This time around will be a little different, however. I will leave the hat open basically forever(if someone donates like $1,000,000 to me I may close it because then I might have to start letting the IRS know about the money.)

Donations collected here pay for our expenses which cover server hosting, mostly. For now, extra funds will be collected and pooled up, but we are considering using them on other things to help the website out. Finally, some money will occasionally go to Vox for all the behind the scenes work he does for us.

If you want your money to be spent on something specific, please add a note to the donation specifying what to use it for! Also, note that your personal information will never be used for anything. You may also opt to choose "No shipping Address Needed" to skip that part.

You can donate here.
https://www.paypal.me/rwbyfanon

We also considered setting up a Patreon for the website, in the chance that people would rather use that or would like to pay us small sums monthly. It allows more anonymity than Paypal does, for one. Let me know in this thread if you are interested in that idea. We'd also be open to having goals and the like or offering rewards. Just no details on those things yet.

Beacon Academy / Waffle Wednesdays[Open]
« on: August 27, 2017, 04:41:34 PM »
Way off to the side of the Beacon Academy docks is a garden. It's placed here because it sits on the cliff edge overlooking the lake and Vale, offering a nice place to relax and recuperate. It is also here because it puts a lot of distance between the school and the garden, which helps reduce the random explosions in the area. Of course, that's not why we're here. We're here to talk about Loaded for Bear, the local Dust shop.

Loaded for Bear. The focal point of conveniently timed plot explosions. Due to the nature of what it sells, it also happens to be a fair distance away from the school, but still within the campus grounds and still safe from surprise grimm. The structure itself is not that big, but it sports a basement that is nearly twice the first floor's size. The structure is built in the same style as most campus buildings but is heavily reinforced because people love explosions, but hate dead buildings. It also happens to be one of the busiest places on Beacon Academy grounds every Wednesday morning. Mia, the shop owner, has a weekly sale every Wednesday. Buy something, and get free waffles. Not from the box, either! It's amazing!

It was just about time to open the store. People needed Dust, and in a timely manner. But it was Wednesday. Waffle's favorite day. Waffle, a giant and adorable bear, sat outside just to the left of the still locked door, like a bouncer. Unlike most bouncers, this bear was sitting up and wearing an apron. A bear sized apron that says, "Do a Bearel roll!"Waffle yawned. It was early. The sun was bearly up.

Within, Mia was double checking the waffle irons to ensure an ample supply. Not that it matters. If anything goes uneaten will go to Waffle. Waffle loves them waffles. Satisfied, she finished up the last few things she needed and opened the store with a yawn, partially hidden behind a smile as she welcomed anyone outside. Except for Waffle. He is not allowed inside during Waffle Wednesday's because the waffle supply mysteriously disappears.

The interior of the store is split into two sections, the sales area, and the back room. The sales area looks fairly typical for a dust shop. Lots of dispensers on the walls with all manner of Dust. Countertops with a few Dust crystals and the like. The crystal supply is low in this store simply due to the predominance of powder Dust at the school. There is also a few snacks for sale because this place is basically a convenience store that sells gunpowder and bombs.

I see this section actually gets some use so I thought I'd participate too! I am Koop, and I am a retired Admin of the website. I do still own the hosting space it is on, however. I've been here since day 1 but ownership of the site was transferred to me say... three years ago or so, from the original creator. I will answer any question you ask, though I may be vague or dodge questions or lie, depending on what you ask. Will try to tell the truth though!

The Vale Region / The Lion's Blade[Plot][Closed]
« on: August 03, 2017, 05:08:17 PM »
OOC: Posting order will be set to Freeform, except during crunch time. In general, you can post in any order at any time, but don't get out of control if someone hasn't posted for a while. This thread is supposed to be lots of explosions and lots of fun. If someone is posting slow about how many Grimm they just mauled into the ground, we'll just press on and assume they mauled a lot. Just assume Michael Bay is directing it. Make sure you look away from explosions too if you cause them. Very important.

Prologue

The Lion's Blade. An ancient weapon said to be able to nullify Aura constructs, allowing it to easily cut apart humans and faunus as easily as Grimm. It could also take the shape of any bladed weapon instantly. The blade was forged hundreds of years ago for a traveling warrior named Leo. With it, he cut down thousands of Grimm as he and his band traveled the continent of Sanus, searching for a way to destroy the Grimm completely, once and for all.

The story of The Lion is a fairly well-known story wrapped in folklore and speculation. Keeping track of history has always been difficult on Remnant, and the truth of this story was lost to the ages. Still, it's often told to children in a way that portrays Leo as a great hero who saved villages and towns from evil.

The leadership in Vale was quick to act when word got out that some records containing evidence regarding the story of The Lion had been found. After verifying their credibility, the government suppressed information as best they could on it. If the blade really did exist, and after this find they were suspicious, then the weapon needed to be found and destroyed or safely stored. In the wrong hands, the weapon could cause untold destruction with its Aura suppressing abilities.

When their specialist returned empty-handed and suffering from what appeared to be dementia or maybe even insanity, they struggled to keep the information under wraps. People were growing curious of where these new rumors were coming from. They still didn't want to run the mission to collect the weapon through public channels. So they turned to Alban Inverno, headmaster of Beacon Academy. He would be able to send a team of students on a routine mission to Petros, the abandoned town the sword is supposedly lost at. Included would be a staff member from Beacon, who could then collect the weapon. This type of thing had happened before. There were concerns about sending student huntsmen to the location after seeing what happened to their specialist, but after experts claimed he would recover the vote passed.

And so, on an unmarked Friday, a mission became available to students to clear Petros of Grimm. Petros is an old city that has been abandoned for years. It is a relatively common training site for Beacon Academy to use, as it is always crawling with Grimm. The worst part was that it was such a far distance away. The trip was done overnight due to the length of the flight, and such lengthy missions could sometimes be delayed in their return.

And so, just before six o'clock that evening, four students arrived at the Beacon Docks. Their "instructor" was Kirkka Scarlet. Though she doesn't do any teaching, she does work for the Academy and is often tapped for missions. She was going over some data on her scroll when the others arrived. Behind her was an Air Bus, standard issue at Beacon Academy. Mia Brightspear, the owner of the "Loaded for Bear" Dust shop on the Academy grounds, was just finishing loading up what seemed like way too much cargo while her pet bear Waffle lazed about in his armor.

As the four students arrived, Kirkka spoke with them briefly and checked them all in on her scroll. As you pass her you can catch a glimpse that she looked to be reading Beacon's Profiles for each student. Good to know your allies.

Just a few minutes later, the Air Bus lifted off with Mia as pilot, Kirkka as Mission Advisor, and then the volunteers: Akeldama Blood-Heart, Fallow Russet, Airi Okairos, and Graham Dylandy. The trip was going to be quite long, and so Kirkka recommended that everyone get some rest during the flight. Refreshments will be available throughout the night.

A voice came through the cabin intercoms. "Briefing is in 5. Touch down in 10. Gear up."

The voice was that of Kirkka Scarlet, who was currently with Mia in the cockpit. The announcement that came through was hopefully enough to wake anyone still sleeping. Looking around the Air Bus, it is easy to tell this vehicle was made for comfortable long flights. It was like riding first class, or maybe even better. There were only 12 seats, two per row, with large windows that had variable tinting running along both sides, providing a great view. There was tons of room to walk around and store things as well. This was much better than the short ranged Bullhead transports. The chairs even reclined so far that they basically became beds. It was quite a nice ride to be transporting a bunch of students to a Grimm infested area so they could purify the area.

There is a ton of supplies being stored in the back end of the Air Bus. The supplies look like a whole bunch of Dust and Dust accessories, many of them catered to be of use to the students. There is even a crate labeled, "DANGER: CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE", and another one with "DANGER: EXPLOSIVES". Mia comes prepared, it seems. The pile of supplies has a guard, as well. In the form of a large armored bear. He stayed put throughout the trip, only moving around a few times but keeping his distance from the students. He seemed quite okay with being on a plane and took a nap when the other students did. Currently, he is sitting next to the Explosives, leaning slightly against it. At the front of the cabin where Kirkka was sleeping earlier is a much smaller set of supplies, her property, no doubt.

It was still dark outside the windows, but dawn was on the way. The sky had changed from blackness to a faint blue color, and the ground below was faintly visible. They were quite a ways up but still well below cloud level as they flew over the darkness of some forested area. There was little to see other than that, though, since they had yet to arrive and it was just a little too dark.

Well... better gear up and make sure everyone is awake, fed and ready to go.

WiP Characters / Kaali Charen
« on: July 30, 2017, 04:35:34 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Kaali Charen

Age: 17, Born on the 8th Klever, 62 AC

Gender and Species: Female Human

Symbol: None

Occupation: First Year Student, Beacon Academy

Appearance: Kaali is, much to her dismay, barely over five feet short. Combining her height with her pleasant smile and toned but underdeveloped body, she has been referred to as a child on occasion, eliciting a fair bit of well-deserved rage from her. Length-wise, her violet hair extends about halfway down her back, though it is nearly always messily kept back into a ponytail with a simple teal colored ribbon tied into a bow. Loose hairs and a general lack of upkeep leaves hair hanging free on the sides and framing her matching violet eyes. A smile is often on her face as she glances about.

As for apparel, Kaali's standard outfit consists of a sleeveless, teal colored tunic extending halfway down her thighs with a cut on one side to allow for flexibility. Gold trimming surrounds the neckline and the bottom and black shorts are worn underneath to solve any potential wardrobe malfunctions. Leather boots reach almost up to her knees and fingerless leather gloves covering her forearms match the color of her shirt. Finally, a long, white jacket featuring teal trimming keeps her arms warm with its sleeves and sports her symbol on the back in teal.

When armed, a brown leather shoulder strap secures her blade to her waist. Image.

History: Kaali had an challenging start to her life. Complications during her birth ended in the death of her mother, Claire. Her father was not particularly interested in raising a child in the first place, and with the death of his wife, he practically forced Kaali onto Kirkka Scarlet, Kaali’s maternal half-sister. At first, Kirkka was happy to help raise Kaali, but after a while, it became apparent to her that the father wanted nothing to do with the child. He seemed to care little for her, and often left Kaali with Kirkka for days or weeks at a time, citing how busy he was with his job. When Kaali was four, Kirkka took steps to become the legal guardian of Kaali, relieving the father of his unwanted duties. A few short years later he moved out of Vale and has not been heard from since.

Kirkka was not the best motherly figure as she had no experience and wasn’t particularly skilled with kids. Kaali was quite rebellious throughout her early years, but Kirkka believed her attitude could be directed toward a worthy goal and enlisted Kaali at Signal Academy. Kaali was eager to learn proper combat. Getting into scraps with others was not uncommon for her, and she had learned that her tiny stature put her at a disadvantage in strength. Her attitude during her first two years at Signal got her into plenty of trouble, which then fell onto Kirkka as she struggled to help Kaali out of situations.

During summer break in her second year, Kaali learned that her best friend that she met at Signal, Cassidy, died while visiting her parents outside of Vale. An unexpected Grimm attack ravaged the supposedly heavily fortified village they lived in. Though the village survived, there were casualties. Kaali fell into a depression with the news and stayed in the background for many months. Cassidy was the only at Signal that Kaali considered an actual friend, and with her gone And Kirkka living at Beacon Academy, she was relatively alone. Kirkka ended up taking a break from her job to stay at Signal while she tried to help Kaali through the unexpected trauma, and Kaali got over her depression, growing very close to her half-sister at the same time. Kirkka was pleased by this, but later on realized that Kaali's reliance on her made it difficult for her to get close to others. Still, Kaali had gained a much more focused mind from the event. A mind focused on the extermination of Grimm.

When Kaali returned to school with renewed vigor, this new focus got Kaali’s grades and skills on track and, with a tiny bit of nudging from Kirkka, she was accepted into Beacon Academy. Now a first-year student, she spends a significant amount of time with Kirkka and continues to struggle with making new friends.

Personality: Kaali has learned from Kirkka to be friendly as much as she can toward most everyone and does not struggle from shyness. That said, she has difficulty making close friends as she is still sometimes reminded of her friend at Signal Academy. Preferring to avoid that kind of situation, she subconsciously attempts to avoid people she feels she is getting too close to. Kirkka is often her fallback for those kinds of situations, something that Kirkka doesn't agree with but mostly understands. Serious conversations are pretty boring, so Kaali has developed a healthy level of snark and sarcasm to deal with that kind of crap. When she has to be, she tends to speak directly and truthfully about things which can be off-putting and harsh.

On the battlefield, a Kaali's attitude changes slightly. Kaali hates grimm, but she is aware that she can't do everything alone. Kaali has shown numerable leadership traits and will often take the lead in battle, both in command decisions and desire to be on the front lines. Her flashy semblance draws attention to her easily, something that lends mostly benefits to this budding leader.

Before coming to Beacon Academy, Kaali refused to practice against other students or any people, because she did not want to risk injuring them. This was not overconfidence in her abilities, however, as she was more concerned that if she injured them, they would not be able to help her in the future. Beacon Academy requires sparring to pass a multitude of classes, so she has dissolved this self-imposed rule. She still struggles with it and holds back sometimes, and more often than not loses fights.

Aura and Semblance: Kaali's semblance is named Stormblood, named after its appearance and the way it functions. When active, jade lightning dances along her skin and equipment. This effect is purely visual, as the lightning is harmless to both other people and technology.  This effect, along with the other drawbacks of her semblance is caused by a genetic defect that makes her Semblance partially incompatible with her Aura.

Stormblood is, simply, an enhancing semblance. It enhances Kaali's strength, defense, mobility, and speed. Kaali's melee strikes can also be empowered to create waves of energy from each sword swing that extend about five feet past the edge of the blade, giving her enhanced reach. These bonuses make Kaali a powerhouse fighter. She can sustain this level of her semblance for a significant amount of time, but overuse causes her body to heat up due to the amount of energy running through it. This can cause side effects and even lead to heat stroke in very extended durations, but Kaali has never seen a need for such a lengthy duration.

If Kaali runs Stormblood at full power, she is easily the strongest, fastest, and the toughest person at Beacon Academy. However, forcing that much power through her veins is dangerous for her. Due to the genetic defect, her Aura does not protect her fully from the effects of her own semblance, and when Stormblood is at full power, it burns the blood cells in her body, in addition to leading to rapid heat stroke. The combination of these things can easily cause Kaali to require medical treatment or, if untreated, death. As such, Kaali almost never runs her semblance past about half power, only utilizing additional power when in dire circumstances. Every second that Stormblood is run at full power runs the risk of killing her. It definitely needs the label, "Do not attempt."

Combat Behavior: With Kaali's semblance being effectively a stat boost and little more, she has focused heavily on honing her skill as a swordswoman. When in battle, she sticks to fighting single targets a time. When outnumbered, she partially mimics her half-sister's style of disengaging and attempting to disperse the enemy with Dust from her weapon. She fights with her blade in both hands, and thanks to her semblance can make quick and powerful strikes, making her a formidable offensive warrior. The boosted range from her semblance also allows her to reach mid range targets while still retaining the power of the strike.

In practice bouts and spars, Kaali regularly fights defensive, a habit from her earlier years. She holds back against others a lot, out of irrational fear of harming them. She knows their Aura will protect them and the match will end before she can truly injure anyone, but she cannot shake that feeling yet. As a result, she struggles to win matches against other students and often agitates her opponents, as it is plain as day that she is holding back.

With a semblance that enhances both her offense and defense, Kaali is particularly challenging to handle head on. Sneak attacks are effective against her, as are keeping out of range of her enhanced sword strikes. Finally, due to her single minded focus on one target at a time, even just two assailants at once can be daunting for her to handle. She is aware of this weakness, however, and seeks to overcome it as Grimm are rarely alone.

WEAPON

Name: Better Half

Primary Form: Better Half is a singled edged sword that rests comfortably in its scabbard on her waist. While sheathed, the blade is only about one and a half feet long, but upon drawing it extends to its full length of just under two feet. This design is due to Kaali's short stature. A lengthy weapon at her waist got in the way often, so she had it designed to be more compact. The scabbard is decorated with faint jade illumination, and at the top has what could be called a control panel that features several buttons and a slider.

Dust Functions: When the sword is drawn from its scabbard, Kaali can utilize the scabbard controls to charge the blade with one of several types of Dust. Once drawn, the effect can last up to a minute. The blade must be returned to its scabbard to be recharged, and sheathing the blade strips the current effect from it, discarding the unused Dust.  Rapidly changing Dust effects can be costly and time-consuming.

  • Strength: The most commonly used type, this Dust simply enhances the force behind the blade, creating stronger attacks and making it easier to parry enemy attacks.
  • Air: With this Dust, the blade becomes easier to swing, allowing her to make high speed but low strength attacks. Additionally, the blade can fire of slicing waves that extend much further than her semblance causes. Only a few of these long range attacks can be made before the Air Dust is depleted.
  • Ice: Ice Dust causes ice to rapidly form around the impact point of the blade. A blast of frost can also be shot from the sword which is capable of completely freezing a medium sized creature or object, such as a beowolf. This blast consumes the entire charge effect.
  • Fire: Uncommonly used, the blade is surrounded by flames that burn targets. Very fun, and very dangerous, but only limited effect due to the difficulty of controlling fire. Piercing an enemy with a flaming blade will burn them from within, however doing so requires leaving the blade in the enemy for some time.

History: Kaali worked hard on the design of her sword, even though it is not overly complex. It was originally just a sword to her, but over the years it has become one of her closest companions in her eventual quest to slay all the Grimm. She recently named it Better Half, a reference that fighting is more than half of her being.

You head up to one of several display boards throughout the room. It is Friday, and students have the option to take on missions during certain weekends for practice and bonus credits in certain classes. The missions required you go to with three other students, and were rated in difficulty by stars on the board. First years could only accept one and two-star missions, with each year gaining one extra star. As such, 4th-year students can take up any missions since five stars is the maximum. These missions were ranked based on the fact that they are available exclusively to students, and are intended to be available for practice so the difficulty is often low.

A quick search on your scroll reveals that Petros is an old town, now abandoned, that sits on atop a cliffside overlooking the eastern oceans. It's a fair bit away from Vale, which could mean it's an extended mission. Sometimes missions take longer than a weekend and, as long as the instructor that's with you agrees, you can be permitted to stay longer. Hard to say without being there though. It's hard to just kill grimm day after day, all day. Regardless, you decide to sign up. You know you need three others, so you should find some like-minded individuals and get together with them.

From the details of the mission, you notice the transport is leaving tonight, at 6 pm. An overnight trip since its so far. Return is scheduled for Sunday at 10 am, meaning you'll have about two full days to crush a whole ton of Grimm.

Available Slots: 4

This mission has four slots for four students. You do not have to be on a team. You may choose you who signup with, but I am gonna do it as first come first serve.

I am leaving it open to you to decide how much your character knows about the story. It's semi-popular folklore in the same manner as say, The Odyssey by Homer is. If you can name the main character in that, your character has at least heard of The Lion's Blade story. In the same vein, up to you on how much your character has heard about the rumors of people going insane and the sword being found. They are fairly rare but growing.

I'm going for a bit of a smash and grab here. Expect explosions and heroics and tons of exploding grimm. Thread should be fun and easy to write and fast paced.

RPG Discussion / Template Update
« on: April 20, 2017, 09:12:59 PM »
The template is receiving its Refresh! The staff has already done one pass over it and discussed various aspects. Some changes have already been implemented. The goal is to update any old information while removing unneeded data. Upcoming will be a second pass over the whole template to make it more easy to find relevant information. Keywords will be colored, data will be better organized, and the like.

The end goal for the template will be that it is the rubric in which we review characters. We are looking for things to add to the template to answer questions people may have about characters. If you have a question about making a character or a suggestion about something that should be added to the template, please post here or message me in Discord!

Example questions: How many forms can my weapon have? How many traits can my faunus character have?

The latter of these two questions has been answered by the template as of today(it was an unwritten rule, basically.) We want to make any unwritten rules we have about approvals to become written, so that everyone can be aware of the nuances many of our reviewers have developed over time. Ask away!

RPG Discussion / New Horizons: Lexicon Update
« on: March 03, 2017, 01:13:58 AM »
So, we're getting the ball rolling with the updates to the site. We've moved into Discord(Link to Guide),  and are now beginning work on the Lexicon, Encyclopedia, and World History. The Lexicon is the easiest and most useful of these three, and as such, we begin there. The current/outdated Lexicon can be found here. I hear that originally when this was made a while back, we did a thread and petitioned everyone to contribute. Good news, everyone! We're doing that again! There's a bit of a difference, though. I want ALL the terms. Everything you can think of that is not a proper noun. This includes all canon material, and material established on the AU.

Here is what I am looking for. Please post in this thread any terms you come up with. Don't worry about repeating something that someone else says. Don't worry about repeating what's already in the current Lexicon, since some of that is outdated.

Additionally, post the source of the information/term. For example, If you post the word Vytal, please mention that it is from the canon. Some of the words may be less obvious and that will assist in researching the term. If it is from our site, such as Semblance Catalyst Foci, you may simply list "AU" or "RWBYFanon" or something. Finally, if it is from a Worldbuild, please clarify which one. (Providing links for sources is also helpful.)As long as it is clear where it is from.

I am looking for as many people to help on this project as possible. If you are not sure if a term should be in the Lexicon, post it anyway because the Lexicon is only the first part

RPG Discussion / New Horizons
« on: February 27, 2017, 08:33:36 PM »
Hello, everyone! I wanted to take some time and publically discuss a few things. Let everyone see some of the ideas that are going down onto the table, and put down their own as well. We'll be talking about a couple of major changes to the website and how things work around here. These topics are in varying stages of planning and are at most, concepts for changes. Nothing is guaranteed.

Topics in no particular order:
  • IRC vs. Discord
  • Information Flow & Communication
    • Remnant World History
    • Lexicon
    • Encyclopedia
  • Affiliation & Advertising
  • The flow of time + Recap System
  • Storyline & Freeform RP
  • Changes to Character Approval
  • New Name
  • Staff Roster

Lots of things to talk about! I'll give a brief overview of each one, and then I am looking for comments, concerns, questions, and other related things on any or all of these things. I want to know everyone's thoughts on the matters.

IRC vs. Discord

If you are not familiar with Discord, it is basically a chat program that combines features from IRC, Skype, and Teamspeak. It's a free program(also runs in a browser) that is feature-rich and receives fairly regular updates.

IRC is cumbersome. It has a mildly difficult barrier of entry, and that turns a lot of people away. Additionally, browser-based versions of it are sorely lacking in features. Downloadable versions exist but are often complex to operate and setup, and often request/require payment.

Discord is something that can be easy to manage for users and the server owner. It's always free(Their only paid option is basically a donation, as the features you gain are very minor and non-functional). All the important features are included on both the browser version and the downloadable version.

Also, something to explore is having certain types of threads/events in Discord chat, or something like a collaborative Google Docs file. It would be possibly very nice for threads involving very high amounts of conversation and little action. An example would be, from the original version of our site several years ago, the Initiation Ball thread. It was 28 pages long in less than a day because there were several players all posting 1 line posts because there was nothing to describe. Something like that is very spammy in a forum setting but more manageable in a chatroom. But just a possibility to consider.

Information Flow & Communication

This is one of the most important things on the list. I want to increase the organization and availability of information both for veterans and for newcomers. One large issue I see is that nobody really knows what is and isn't included/allowed in our setting, which is an Alternate Universe of the main show. Most people know that all canon characters do not exist, but not everyone. Nobody is certain if the Maidens exist, or if real magic exists, who the big bad guys are, etc. This can be alleviated with compendiums of knowledge that are up to date. Which brings me to the list of things I want to work on first.

The world history of our AU Remnant. For the most part, things generally line up with the show, up until episode 1, season 1. There was a big war about 80 years ago, for example. However, things already changed. We have renamed this war to the Greyed War(canonically, it is simply the Great War). We renamed it because it was referred to as a war on color, art, expression, and the like. Anyway, what I'm getting at is that things are the same, but also a little different. And this all should be cataloged in a way that is easy to determine.

Moving on, we have a Lexicon, a dictionary of terms that we use regularly on the site. However, it is outdated and also lacking a lot of things. Additionally, an encyclopedia should be made, which would provide significant details on various aspects of the world. Explain the geography of Remnant, including a list of the proper names of all the continents, including our custom content. Currently, our custom content is all disconnected from each other and the canon parts of the world. Something like this would help paint a picture that ties all the various aspects of it together, without having to sift through huge, multi-page posts describing each and every world build in extreme details that you frankly, don't need right now. The goal of this encyclopedia would be to give overviews. Most characters would know at LEAST most of the things in the encyclopedia. They would know the names of the Kingdoms and their general locations, major global landmarks such as the Sunkissed Sands(the desert surrounding Vacuo), where Bergenstahl is, etc.

Affiliation & Advertising

This is the final step of all of this. I want to advertise our site somehow, to help bring in new people. Currently, we get only a small amount of players joining, and because we lack player retention, our numbers never really increase. No planning has really gone into this yet, simply due to a number of things to be done beforehand.

The flow of time + Recap System

This is my big idea, that also ties in heavily with the next idea. We have tried several times over the course of the site to implement some kind of timeline. The creation of a World History page would be the first step to actually seeing this happen. I want time to pass, and a major story to be told as it does. There are lots of ideas for the story. It could be a unique story made up by a select few, which makes them effectively the GM/storytellers, then the players play out their threads as they progress through the story. It could also be the canon story, rewritten partially but in general following the same story arcs. A third option would be some kind of collaborative story where everyone contributes through the threads they make. Much harder, but potentially much more interesting.

The idea behind allowing this all to work would be what I am just calling the Recap System. Once a (real life)week, all participants in threads in the Storyline category(more on this later) will submit a "recap" to one person, detailing in a few short sentences, what has happened to their character and/or what happened in their threads. This person would then collect all the recaps, and combine them into a single semi-cohesive story post. This would happen every week and would paint a picture and tie threads together for the first time.

As an example, say your character's team is sparring in the Beacon Arena. Under the current system, nothing else is happening in the world right now, unless you say it is happening directly in your thread. Now, say in another thread, a bunch of bandits just blew up a chunk the Beacon Arena. With the current system, these instances simply don't happen at the same time. They can't, because neither thread knows about the other. With the recap system, the sparring thread members would see in the latest recap that hey, someone just blew up the arena in this thread. They could then talk to the other thread members, and combine their threads together, or something akin to that. Basically allow for the ideas of others to interact with yours.

Storyline & Freeform RP

Now for this idea to work, the previous idea probably also must work. I am proposing this Storyline category, where all threads in the category are counted in the recap, and affect each other. The section would have stricter rules, such at posting speed(Something like twice a week, but it would be flexible) and requiring more of the character's profile, such as having all students be on a team of 4. All 4 characters would have to be active in the Storyline category. Time would progress slowly over time. At first, the effective time would be Month 1, Year 1. All threads would take place sometime during that month. As the story progresses(either through "Main Story" threads, similar to event/plot threads, or some other concept not yet realized), time would eventually pass to Month 2, Year 1. Once it does, all future threads can only begin in Month 2. However, actively running threads would still be able to be continued and finished. Additionally, at the end of each month(in game month, not like the weekly recap) there would be a super recap post. This post would explain major events in the world, and all future posts would need to take these things into account. If for example, Beacon Academy got exploded in Month 3, and it was Month 4, all threads must take that into account. You can't have a thread where you attend class at Beacon as if everything were normal. Because its exploded.

All that said, it would be unfortunately for Beacon to get exploded because a majority of the threads currently made take place there. As such, the current setup of boards are the "Freeform" boards. Time continues to not flow there, and in general, those threads to not affect the Storyline threads, and vice versa. This would still allow characters to take part in things such as spars at Beacon Academy, or initiation events, or the like. If a character that is participating in Storyline mode decides to join a sparring thread in Freeform, that thread is effectively taking place in the "past" when compared to the current timeframe of Storyline. The biggest reason for this separation is continuity. Doing threads in the past is like time travelling. If an event happens in the past, it could effectively counteract something that happened in a thread in Storyline, 1 month later. This would cause massive story issues. As such, the Freeform board would effectively be out of time, and not affecting of the main story. It may have all still happened, it just can't be easily placed on a timeline.

Changes to Character Approval

One thing we do all the time is to try and solve the issue of character approvals taking a long time. We've tried a whole bunch of times to change the way the system works to "Streamline" it. Frankly, the real issue is that sometimes, people just don't want to review a character. And there's not a very good solution to that.

One possibility is the idea of group approvals. Anyone allowed to approve would have access to a chatroom designed solely for working on approvals. There, you could ask questions of your fellows and collaborate on the review process together. And if you aren't sure how to proceed with a review, you can ask someone to take over/assist you. That kind of thing. Possibilities.

New Name

As you may know, our website address is RWBYFanon.com, and our forums are either called RWBYFanon, or RWBY-RPG. All of this is confusing. We are not affiliated with the website that shares our name, rwbyfanon.wikia.com, and we are not a RolePlaying Game. This has been a point of confusion for a long time, and so I am proposing a rebranding of the site to correct some of these issues. I have no suggestions as of yet, however. We want it to be memorable but not confusing.

Staff Roster

I dunno why this is the last one on the list because it will be among the first things happening. I will be restructuring the website staff in order to bring things up to speed with the possible changes that will be taking place. One issue with our staff is that we've all become lazy with many of our duties, and this is to blame for some of the issues of the website. There will be a general chain of command, but the biggest change is that the staff size will likely increase, and all staff members will have a sole responsibility(or more, if they are so inclined and motivated enough. For example, one of our members, Kaliot, is in charge of managing the Teams board and the Team List. That is a singular task that can be easily managed by one person, and shouldn't be overwhelming to the point of being demotivating.

I also want to increase communication between staff members, because very little goes on currently. I want to be able to solve issues such as, for example, if Kaliot got bored doing Team things, we could find someone else to do them instead of him just forcing himself to do what he doesn't want to do.

There! I think that's everything I have so far. I would really appreciate feedback both from staff and any members! Even if you are brand new or have been around for 4 years, I wanna listen! I want to make this place awesome, and I'm motivated to work on it and see it happen! I want to build a better community than the one we already have! So let me know your thoughts and ideas on these topics. I'm open to suggestions, examples of other sites, anything! Feel free to post in this thread, or PM me if you want.

Approved Characters / Mia Brightspear
« on: February 27, 2017, 03:46:06 AM »
CHARACTER

Name: Mia Brightspear

Age: 35. Born Arashi 11th, 44 AC

Gender and Species: Female Human

Symbol: Mia uses her hometown's symbol as her own, which is shown on the front of her outfit.

Occupation: Owner of ‘Loaded for Bear’ Dust shop on Beacon Academy Grounds.

Appearance: Mia is about five feet six inches tall. She is well built, though most of her muscle tone comes from exercise through combat. Her fair skinned face sports bright green eyes, a small nose, and a small, well-hidden scar on the side of her face, just under her right ear. Atop her head is a well-maintained collection of peach colored hair tied into twin tails that reach down to shoulder height. Orange ribbons hold the tails in place, and the decorative clip is made to resemble a common teal colored flower native to parts of Southern Mistral, where she was born. Her fringes or bangs are long and parted to towards both sides of her face, revealing her forehead while hiding the sides of her face, and the scar. She looks to be about her age.

Her typical outfit consists of a mid-length white dress with several layers of white ruffles. Matching long boots come up to about halfway up her thighs. A flap extends from the collar through the midpoint of her outfit, passing the ruffles slightly. The edges of her outfit and the flap are golden, and the flap has the emblem of her hometown in gold on it. Over the dress, she wears a long sleeved jacket that reaches only to her upper waist. The jacket is lined with golden edges, and zigzag markings just before the cuffs. The sleeves are blue, while the rest of the jacket is a dark blue, almost grey color. White fingerless gloves with gold around the fingertips finish the outfit.

She most often wears this outfit, but can rarely be seen in casual attire of a wide variety, as well. Only very rarely, however.

Mia’s weapon, Lostfon, is a lengthy twin-pronged spear. The shaft is white and features a decorative gold pommel. At the top, the spear head is held by gold and teal colored, like her flower hairpieces. The spear head is white with a grey pattern engraved into it. Album.

History: Mia was born in southern Anima, on the edges of Mistral’s borders. As with tradition in this region, you are born with only your given name. Your title or surname is given between the ages of 10 and 20 typically and is based on a variety of things such as profession, appearance, or battle prowess.

At a young age, Mia’s parents decided to move to the capital of Mistral. Raising a child so far away from the safety of civilization was difficult. There were difficulties in the trip, however. They requisitioned transport via airship, but an unexpected swarm of flying grimm overwhelmed the cruiser, causing it to crash land a few hours away from the capital. Most of the passengers and crew survived, but there were injuries, and they were ill-equipped to deal with such a situation. Among the injured was Mia’s father. His Aura protected him from the brunt of the damage, sparing his life, but his leg was still broken and he had internal bleeding. He eventually bled to death before help could arrive. When it finally did, Mia, her mother, and about twenty others were transported to the safety of the capital.

Years later, as Mia grew to an age where she could understand what had actually happened that day, she swore vengeance upon all grimm. A bold statement from a child, but she believed, and there was little that would stray her from her path to becoming a Huntress. Her mother supported her along the way, gifting her father’s weapon, Lostfon, to her once she began training and schooling in combat. Mia mastered her father’s weapon as she continued her journey.

After graduating from Haven Academy in Mistral, her attitude had changed thanks to her experiences and new friends. She had learned much about the world and how things work. Blind vengeance wouldn’t cut it here. She eventually took a step back from her work as a huntress and focused on the study and research of Dust. She believed that somewhere, Dust contained the power to eradicate the grimm forever. It simply had to be discovered.

Before beginning a project that would likely consume her entire lifetime, Mia decided to travel and visit her hometown with her mother. From what little she could recall of it, it was drastically different. Years of Grimm attacks forced significant change very rapidly. The town had survived, however, and the people were happy to welcome her back and her mother. They ended up staying for several months, with Mia making use of the time to learn about the town's origins and how they continue to survive. Their warriors ride trained, armored bears into battle, and her father was a noted member of this Bear Cavalry, although he retired when Mia was born. During her stay, Mia took part in defending the town from several Grimm attacks. Mia’s skill and appearance in battle reminded both the veterans and her mother of her father, especially when she obliterated particularly powerful monsters with her signature attack, something they had all seen before, countless times. Nobody spoke of it to her directly, but some found it astounding that her ability with the spear was nearly identical to her father’s. As thanks for her aid, she was gifted with a pet bear, Waffle. Though still a cub, Waffle had been trained well and followed her willingly. When the time came for her to depart on her quest for knowledge, her mother, the leader of the town and the captain of the guard approached her and bestowed upon her the title Brightspear, the same as her father. Mia was grateful, and in tears at the gesture. Her mother had ensured that their family’s heritage and traditions remained intact, and Mia was overwhelmed to have been granted the same title as her father. She even considered staying and becoming a permanent resident of her hometown, but in the end stuck to her conviction to find a solution to the Grimm, and her journey took her back to Mistral’s capital, then to Vale.

Her purpose in Vale was to attend a trade school that specializing in the mechanics and use of Dust. It was here she met Kirkka Scarlet. They graduated from the school together, becoming close friends over the years. While they continued to take on hunt missions together, Kirkka eventually took on a job at Beacon Academy. A year later, she convinced Beacon’s Headmaster to open a dust shop on the campus, and Mia was hired to run it. Mia was thrilled to be a part of it as it allowed her access to Beacon Academy’s resources to further her studies. She has been there for several years now, selling a wide variety of ammo, dust, Semblance Catalysts, and more to Beacon Academy’s student body. Additionally, the two are regularly used as combat specialists in particularly dangerous missions, most sanctioned by the school… some not officially.
The shop, Loaded for Bear, was named because of Mia’s fondness for her pet bear, Waffle, who runs the store with her. Waffle was trained from a young age and is an excellent companion. However, his battle training is sorely lacking and as such, Mia does not ride him into combat like her hometown would have her do. She has requisitioned armaments for him, though, and he is trained as a mount. But the most riding that’s done is just for fun and games.

Personality: If anything, Mia is driven. She always strives to accomplish any task she sets her mind to. However, her past has taught her that maintaining awareness of one's surroundings and situation is important, so she tries to step back and analyze situations, though it doesn't always work out. Patience is something she works for but can be difficult for her at times.

In conversation, she is always pleasant and kind and often enjoys small talk with others. She tends to ramble on sometimes if the topic switches to something of particular interest, such as bears or Dust or Grimm. She is always happy to discuss her hometown as well, a place she takes great pride in. Her appearance and mannerisms reflect her presence in southern Mistral, but as she was raised for most of her childhood in the capital of Mistral, most mannerisms are overwritten by Northern Mistrali ones.

She’s something of a bear lover, as it would seem. Her shop is decorated with all manner of bear paraphernalia, from stuffed teddy bears to a portrait of her hometown’s Bear Cavalry warriors. Not to mention Waffle, who is a fully grown bear and has a special entrance into the shop. Because of him, everything in the shop is very wide, but he doesn’t spend much time inside, as he has been scolded often for breaking things.

Aura and Semblance: Mia’s Aura is of average strength for someone of her skill and training. She is by no means an expert in the use of it, but she is able to sense approaching grimm, though determining direction is vague at best. She regularly makes use of the ability to empower her physical strikes, however.

Mia’s semblance is Echoes. When activated, a faint copy of herself is created at her position. The copy mimics her next attack before fading away. The echoes cannot be harmed but can inflict damage as though it were Mia herself, but they cannot mimic or create Dust effects. A Semblance Catalyst Focus could be applied to create elemental attacks, but they would still be limited to the range of the spear--the attacks could not become projectiles such as fireballs or wind blades. Additionally, Mia's signature attack, while it would be replicated, is only physically mimicked. The wind dust used in the attack does not apply, meaning it would simply be a series of thrusts and a vertical strike. This creates a few major opportunities. She can strike multiple targets at once, though it requires time she may not have in the heat of battle. Making multiple strikes against a single target is more feasible, but dangerous because she can also be struck by the Echo. The most common functionality is to create an image while avoiding an attack, then counterattacking. The real Mia would be safe from her dodge, while the Echo would still be directly in front of the assailant. Since the Echo requires no defense, Mia could strike with full power from safety. Echoes have a relatively short range and duration, lasting only a few seconds at most and fading when Mia moves more than a stone's throw away. This time limit and the positional requirement(due to Echoes being able to strike objects, including Mia herself or other Echoes) make it uncommon to have more than one, and very rare to have more than two Echoes at once.

Mia is a masterful user of Dust. Her weapon is greatly empowered by it, and she is skilled in the creation of all manner of Dust related objects, such as ammunition and Semblance Catalysts. She is not able to tune SCFs to people, however. She leaves that task to Kirkka when at work.

Combat Behavior: Mia is an agility fighter. Her strikes are quick and numerous as she uses her agility to avoid or parry attacks with grace and skill. She fights very aggressively, using the reach of her spear to her advantage. Shorter range weapons have a difficult time getting past the end of her own, and as such, she can concentrate on more strikes. Thrusting attacks deal significant damage from the maximum distance, while sweeping attacks are used while repositioning herself, dealing with multiple targets, or deflecting enemies or their attacks. Getting past the pointy end of her spear is the best way to handle her, and staying in that area hinders her attack power. However, the spear is versatile and can be simply pulled closer, moving her hands up to the front of the shaft, to allow for very close range defense. Mia also lacks in long range attacks, having no firearm. Wind-based Dust attacks tend to have a medium range and deal medium cutting damage.

WEAPON

Name: Lostfon

Primary Form: Lostfon is a dual-pronged spear, capable of releasing a variety of wind Dust based attacks from between the two prongs. Dust is stored in canisters in the shaft.

Storage Form: The spear is too large to be stowed away, so Mia carries it in her hand regularly. As part of her supplies, she carries a strap and a cover for the blade. The cover protects the blade from damage while protecting other things from being cut or poked. The strap is simply used to attach the spear to herself or something else securely. While strapped to her, there is no easy way to detach it rapidly, so she rarely does this unless she really needs both hands free for a long time.

Dust Functions: Multiple dust containers are stored throughout the lengthy shaft, allowing for a significant supply to be used before reloading is required. Most commonly, wind blades are created with many of Mia’s swings, boosting the damage of each attack and allowing for medium range cutting attacks. Thrusting attacks are also empowered similarly, greatly boosting their damage and allowing the attack to extend past the reach of the spear.

Finally, Mia has a signature attack she calls Lostfon Drive. It consumes a massive quantity of Dust from her weapon in order to unleash a series of empowered thrusts at her opponent, following up with an upward swing right after that unleashes a powerful gust of wind, easily capable of lifting even the heaviest of enemies into the air. With a final thrust, a torrent of wind and light bursts forth, massively damaging her opponent and blowing them farther up and away.

History: The origin of the weapon is unknown to Mia and her mother. Mia’s father had the weapon before he met either of them, and he never mentioned where it came from. People in Mia’s hometown were unsure either when questioned, aside from legends and stories that came to be due to her father’s supposedly legendary skill with it.

PET

Name: Waffle

Age: 11. Born Arashi 29th, 69 AC

Gender and Species: Male South Mistrali Grizzle Bear

Symbol: Waffle Bear Paw, a specialty of Mia's cooking.

Occupation: Guardian and mascot of ‘Loaded for Bear’ Dust shop on Beacon Academy Grounds.

Appearance: As a grizzly bear from south Mistral, Waffle looks much like a typical Rocky Mountain Grizzly, although he is a little bit larger than normal. His fur is groomed well, and he wears a bowtie around his neck, plainly visible when he is sitting down observing passing students.

Mia requisitioned a set of battle armaments. It is modular armor that comes with attachments, but Mia isn't quite rich enough for the best stuff. Armor protects much of Waffle, and as part of the armor is a saddle. The saddle is used regularly by Mia while riding Waffle around campus, because who doesn't love riding a bear around a school. However, the saddle can be replaced with a Gatling gun.

History: Waffle was born in captivity and raised for about a year by humanoids. Originally he was going to be trained as a battle bear, capable of mounted combat. But about a year after, he was instead gifted to Mia Brightspear, a visitor to his hometown. Together they traveled from Mistral to Vale, where he now works as Mia’s faithful companion and friend, and guardian of Loaded for Bear, Beacon Academy’s one stop shop for all things ammunition and dust.

Personality: Waffle is a bear. As one would expect, he tends to a lot of bear things. Roars and the like. He is well trained, however, and is ever faithful to his master, Mia. He seems to understand her orders, and… for the most part, follows them. He is friendly toward people who approach him, but will often roar at people when they touch his fur. He hates greasy hands making a mess of his well-groomed self.

Waffle also loves bears, and will usually try to defend bear-kind.

Waffle also loves waffles. They are delicious. Mia makes them for breakfast.

Aura and Semblance: Waffle, like all animals on Remnant, has an Aura. It is unusually powerful as well, but difficult to use since bears are not easily trained in the advanced use of it. As such, it provides Waffle with significant regeneration and shielding power. Additionally, it is used to empower his attacks when he gets serious, which can lead to unexpectedly high damage. Don't mess with the bear.

Waffle’s semblance is Read the Wind. He can read the wind. Nobody really knows what this unique semblance does, but Mia claims it is among the most powerful of abilities ever conceived.

Combat Behavior: Waffle is a bear. His combat behavior tends to be very bear-like. Charge foe, maul, repeat. Sometimes he will throw in a bear hug, but those are usually reserved for Mia. When cornered, he will fight with all his might.

WEAPON

Name: Tooth and Claw

Primary Form: Tooth and Claw is a set of Teeth. And claws. As one would expect, they are used for a variety of things, from raking, to mauling, to eating, and chomping.

Storage Form: Teeth are stored in mouth, Claws are stored in paws.

Dust Functions: Waffle does not like to discuss his past attempt at using Dust with his weapons.

Waffle has a signature attack called Bear Hug. This ability has two possible outcomes. A loving and friendly hug between best friends, or a death grip of pain and suffering equal to none. Choose wisely.

History: When Waffle was born, he grew teeth. And claws.

WEAPON

Name: Bastion

Primary Form: This is what goes on Waffle's top when the saddle is replaced.

Bastion fires two hundred Lein, custom-tooled cartridges at ten thousand rounds per minute. It costs four hundred thousand Lein to fire this weapon... for twelve seconds. Coating the ammunition with dust is also in the realm of possibility, but drives the cost up slightly.

Because of this cost, neither Mia nor Waffle owns any of this ammunition.

Storage Form: This thing is heavy, and is stored in Loaded for Bear's storage room. Where all the dangerous explosive materials are stored. Because safety first kids.

History: Bought by Mia as part of Waffle's armaments.

CHARACTER

Name: Mia Brightspear

Age: 35. Born Arashi 11th, 44 AC

Gender and Species: Female Human

Symbol: None. She never settled on a good one, but she did manage to give her pet Waffle a symbol.

Her mother had ensured that their family’s heritage and traditions remained in tact, and Mia was overwhelmed to have been granted the same title as her father.

However, per past has taught her to maintaining awareless of one's surroundings and situation is important, so she tries to step back and analyze situations, though it doesn't always work out. Patience is something she works for, but can be difficult for her at times.

In conversation, she is always pleasant and kind and often enjoys small talk with others. She tends to ramble on sometimes if the topic switches to something of particular interest, such as bears or Dust or Grimm. She is always happy to discuss her hometown as well, a place she takes great pride in. Her appearance and mannerisms reflect her presence in southern Mistral, but as she was raised for most of her childhood in the capital of Mistral, most mannerisms are overwritten by Northern Mistralan ones.

When activated, a faint copy of herself is created in her position. The copy mimics her next attack before fading away. The echoes cannot be harmed but can inflict damage as though it were Mia herself.

Dust Functions: Multiple dust containers are stored along the lengthy shaft, allowing for a significant supply to be used before reloading is required.

Gender and Species: Male South Mistralan Grizzle Bear

Symbol: Waffle Bear Paw, a specialty of Mia's cooking.

Occupation: Guardian and mascot of ‘Loaded for Bear’ Dust shop on Beacon Academy Grounds.

Appearance: As a grizzly bear from south Mistral, Waffle looks much like a typical Rocky Mountain Grizzly, although he is a little bit larger than normal. His fur is groomed well, and he wears a bowtie around his neck, plainly visible when he is sitting down observing passing students.

Aura and Semblance: Waffle, like all animals on Remnant, has an unusually powerful Aura. Though he has no training in using it, the only capabilities with it are general regeneration and shielding of himself and his gear. It is worth noting that when he does fight something, his attacks are often empowered by his Aura.

Gus wasn't really fired. I tricked you.

I have returned. I've recently found some motivation to write, and so I came back. For those of you that know me, it's business as usual.

For those of you that don't know me, I am Koop, and I own the space this site is hosted on! I think that is technically correct. I am a semi-retired administrator and I've been gone for about 4 months. Just getting situated, but I'm usually available on IRC for chatting things. Hope to see you all around the forums, and in IRC!
