Plot Discussion / Re: Is there interest in more standard missions?
« on: May 20, 2017, 10:52:46 PM »
Got a bunch of those tied to the events in the Vacuo storyline. Just waiting on worldbuild. Same idea, search and destroy, escort, perimeter defense, but with consequences that ripple later. A connected ecosystem.

"Ah'm not quite sure what to expect anymore Miss Suntalia." Sherwood says with a smile. With a quirk of his brow, he adds "Ah don't mean anything by that of course. The city is so different from where Ah'm from Ah can't keep up." He looks wistfully out of the shop windows to the busy street.

"We haven't even had much time to get to know each other even." He says. He tilts his head slightly. He crosses his arms on the table in front of him, left hand holding his right wrist.

"... Well. Ah'm from Vale, border town called Baum. Ah grew up to ah family of hunters." he says before he smiles wryly. "Game, not Grimm. Ah'll my skill with ah bow came from long days of hunting." Catching himself going on a tangent, he coughs slightly.

"Ah ended up meeting ah retired Huntsman ah few years back. He was the original owner of Tristram. He got me started on the Huntsman path, and ah obviously inherited the bow." He finishes. He looks at each other huntsman in training at the table. He blinks and swallows. He unconsciously hopes someone else picks up from there. Sherwood never considered himself much of a talker. Maybe his partner can take over before he starts digging a hole.

Sherwood frowns. He offers his scroll casually while leaning back against the boulder. "You've got so many injuries. If the Grimm are increasing that much why not call for ahsisstance from Huntsman? Ah can tell you're strong but you should't have to fight ahll on your own."

Sona frowns at her scroll. She taps at the screen rapidly, trying to get the fingerprint scanner to recognize her index finger.

"Well, I know of a lot of places by name or reputation. I haven't shopped in most of them though." she says absently. The scroll flashes and her fingerprint is recognized. Sona rolls her shoulders and leans back against the stand.

"I've only seen a few of your outfits in the last few days, but you seem to like Huntress fashion right? Clothes made for combat and individuality if I remember the tagline right. We could start with that." she continues without looking up. Her hair frames her face as she leans forward over the scroll. A few more taps on the scroll and she brushes her hair to the side, turning slighly to look at Lynae. Her eyes are questioning, looking for a respond if not in words, in mannerism.

Sherwood was admittedly a little lost in the flow of questions Suntalia had thrown at him. Thinking on it, he couldn't recall every having met someone with so much energy. He blames the city idly, though he can't decide if so much energy is actually a bad thing.

"Well, Ah did get a bit lost. Ah actually left Beacon Ah few hours ago." he says. "Ah figured it wouldn't take too long to get used to the layout of ah city. Just like another hunting ground." He scratches the back of his head.

"Ah may have over estimated that one. Ah probably explored maybe ah third of the city? Ah tried to keep track, but the streets ahren't always straight." He pauses for a moment to mentally muse on the fact that a street isn't always blocked shaped which makes it not a block at all.

"But ah. Yeah. It'd be helpful if there was ah map or trail markers. Ah suppose Ah'll have to wait for my sense of direction to ahjust." he finishes. Noticing he'd been the only to speak, he coughs slightly and straightens his back a little. That has to be rude to the rest. They surely want to share as well.

"Are you ah long time resident of the big city Miss Suntalia?" he asks.

Sona hums. "I certainly need a new combat outfit. Anything else would depend I suppose." Sona reaches into her back pocket and pulls out the scroll she stashed there before. She looks around quickly, and angles their walk to a outdoor newspaper stand off to the side of the road. The stand must be popular, given it's shelves are empty and no one is manning it. Still, it serves nicely to take the two girls out of the flow of people.

"Sorry, I need to get this thing working, can't really avoid it any longer." Sona says. She leans against the wall and opens the scroll to it's setup prompt. "My stipend from the Academy was setup on my scroll account." she explains.

Sherwood smiles slightly. "Well Ah'm actually only ah first year. Ah haven't seen ahll that much yet."

"Can Ah start with how you ahctually got wounded Miss Nishka?" Sherwood says. His brows knit and he puts his right hand in his pocket. Unseen, that hand clenches a little bit.

To his surprise, his hand vibrates. His scroll had buzzed with some kind of notification. He pulls it out, awkwardly opening the screen. His brow raises at his partner's message.

I got hung up outside the village. Will head in when I can. Be careful. He types slowly and pointedly. His tongue presses against his left cheek. Scrolls weren't his thing. His eyes flick up to Nishka and he chuckles sheepishly.

"Sorry. My partner is the time to get into trouble easily, so Ah always  make sure to respond."

"Alright, partners it is." Sona says as she falls in step with her partner. "As long as we go around together after lunch." She adds. She lightly pushes the door closed behind her and Lynae. She looks intently at the Lynae's back for a second, the corner of her mouth twisting slightly. She then rolls her shoulders with an inaudible sigh and thumbs her right digit into her pocket, stepping a bit faster to walk next the team leader. She merely smiles as she takes her place beside Lynae.

...

Despite the trademark heat of Vacuo's sun the streets are full of people. Shoppers like Sona and Lynae dart from store to store, children run between their parents legs as the parents gossip among themselves, and sweaty workers push carts of sandstone bricks around for the renovation at the end of the block. Sona brushes her long hair off the back of her neck, rubbing it slightly. Her eyes sweep over the street more than the shop windows on the buildings as they pass them.

A teenage boy runs in Sona's direction, laughing and running from his two friends. Sona steps out of his path before he was anywhere near close enough to bump into her, her eyes following them as they continue their chase.

"Were you looking for anything in particular Lynae?" Sona asks. She does so more passively than usual, none of the large smiles or blinking eyes. Her eyes, when she pulls them from the street to look at her partner, are no less interested. More relaxed might describe it, were one to compare before and after. Though at the same time her shoulders are rolled up and back; rigid with her hands held behind her back.

The elevator door opens to the 33rd floor of VAC tower. The room is lined with glass cabinets containing artifacts that have already been processed. The artifacts vary in size and type, mostly minor things that have about zero importance to anyone with an archaeology degree. The center of the room's dirty wood floor is a circular workbench, covered with tools and dust. No artifacts lay out on the workbench, all carefully stored in temporary containers. The floor's windows are the only source of light, washing the building with an ethereal quality. two door lead out of the room, one in the north east and western corners. The floor was quiet, not even the elevator making a sound.

"Damnit Dannum, the elevator can and will fall if you keep bouncing. You realize you're twice the size of the average occupant?" Richard grumbles stepping out of the elevator. His head swivels sharply from right to left, looking in every corner he can see as he enters. His hand rests on Raster in it's holster.

"Alright, good job cleaning up the party interns. Get out of hiding now, or I start shooting. You know I'm not kidding." Richard says with a sarcastic edge to his voice. The professor was positive there were no interns in the room. Call it a sneaking suspicion or Huntsman instinct. He could only hope that whatever might be here is easily intimidated.

"Ahlright, Ah'll take that." Sherwood says to their waiter. He turns to his assembled team, relaxing in to his seat. It had been a long day before he end up in the city and the last few hours in Vale didn't prove anymore relaxing. It was nice to sit down.

"Well Ah'm glad we could eat with you Miss Suntalia. Ah'm sure were ah lucky team to get ah chance like this." he says politely.

Sherwood does not bother to school a bit of the surprise he felt from his face. He expected a secret, but not quite what he got. He looks around, scanning the trees for more Grimm. Thankfully his textbook proved truthful in that Boarbatusk tend to travel alone.

"We're in the clear Nishka." Sherwood says, replacing his knife on his back. He steps up to the girl and extends a hand. "My name is Sherwood Cathasaigh. Ah'm ah first year out of Beacon Academy."

Sona flips her long hair from the back of her shirt, letting the golden locks flow down to the center of her back. She gives herself another look in the mirror, marginally happier with the change of clothes.

"That makes half of us then. I know Vacuo city..." Sona says, turning around. A wry expression crosses her features as if she was surprised by her own statement. "Well, there are more places in the Academy I haven't been than in the city itself."

Sona stops at her desk and unboxes the scroll on the desk. She taps the screen on momentarily, but rather than set up the new devices she clicks it closed and places it her back pocket. "I can't say I've much experience with clothes like yours Vidalia." Sona says with a smile, her eyes locked on her new teammate. "I'd definitely defer to you on this one."

His brow rising at just how "easy" the girl did in fact fulfill his request, Sherwood is already moving towards the wall. he jumps and uses his weight to push the Grimm down on it's back as opposed to it landing on it's feet. Hoping a the boar Grimm will have similar body structure to a wild boar, Sherwood straddles the upside down Grimm and slashes at the boar's neck.

He cuts at all the critical points he can remember on a boar's underside. His memory is good as he slashes half a dozen places.  The Grimm is far tougher to cut into than a mortal animal, but his knife is well honed and cuts as deep as the blade can. The thought that the beast could flip over if it proves tough enough doesn't even cross Sherwood's mind, all of his attention goes into the accuracy and precision of his cuts.

Sona pulls the tattered shirt over her head and starts to change into the only other normal outfit she has, the black t shirt and faded jeans.

"Are any of you from Vacuo City?" She asks, looking towards the others through the mirror in front of her. "That would help." She adds.

It's a short walk to the VAC tower and on first glance, nothing seems wrong with the massive building. No blown out upper floors, no circling attack squads. Good news for Richard, but he can't say his companion would agree to call it good.

Richard marches into the breezeway, swiping his id card to unlock the doors into the lobby proper. He looks over to the doorman who nods nervously to the professor.

"No one in or out since the alarm tripped, correct?" Richard says, trying to keep the business edge out of his voice. He nods again. The poor man seemed quite confused, but he at least followed protocol. The door guards watch their posts so whoever got in won't get out a proper entrance.

"Stay vigilant." Richard says maybe a little too tersely. He hasn't stopped walking.
