CHARACTER

Name:
Francis Haldstrom
Age:
18
Species and Gender:
Human Male
Symbol:
None
Occupation:
Beacon 2nd Year Student
Appearance:
Francis stands at 6’2” and weighs an even 190 pounds. His sandy blonde hair is cut short enough to stay out of his eyes, and usually worn loose and unstyled, though on special occasions he’ll slick it back with gel. His eyes are algae green, not usually considered a good color, but he makes it work, and they’re offset nicely by his tanned skin. His nose is slightly crooked from being broken, but it manages to give him a swashbuckling air.
His body is, in simple terms, fuckin cut. He trains to keep himself in top physical condition and it shows, his entire body is lean and strong, his training focused entirely on getting strong, not caring about looking good.
Francis usually wears simple clothes that don’t restrict his movement. He can be seen wearing whatever’s functional for the weather and occasion, he isn’t above wearing cargo shorts if needed. In general he lacks any sense of style, but the clothes don’t clash either.
History:
Frank’s family originated in Mistral, and he lived in a city on the coast there until he moved to Vale to attend Signal. While normally he would have gone to the academy in Mistral, his family saw his entrance into one of the combat academies as a chance to escape poverty in Mistral, moving to Vale where Frank’s mother opened a bakery and his father hired himself out as a guard for caravans and the like.
Frank came from what you might call a family of warriors, though he wouldn’t say that. Family of warriors brings to mind a serious household where a patriarch rules with an iron fist, the complete opposite of Frank’s fun-loving, delightful family. However, they were still warriors through and through, and Frank felt pressured to follow in their footsteps, not that he minded. His family had a hereditary semblance that was completely useless for combat, and so Frank knew from an early age that if he were to be at the same level as his peers, he would have to work harder and be ready for any situation.
He found that he loved training, seeking out mentors to keep going past when his teachers required. His father always told him that you can’t control anything in life but yourself, and Frank took that to heart, finding that he loved improving himself by learning new skills and improving his body.
He dedicated himself to his training, not just in fighting but in all things, leaving him largely independent in terms of social life. He didn’t always have time for close friendships, and he grew to be comfortable alone.
As he trained, Frank continued to add new weapons to his arsenal, keeping up his skills with the old as he learned the new, and translating the common skills between them to become adept with many methods of fighting before his time.

Personality:
Frank is like the rest of his family, fun-loving and easygoing. He’s a very “go with the flow” type of person, not likely to try to force people to bend to his whims, he’s usually happy going along with whatever comes his way. Always ready to help people out, whether it be a friend who needs help or just an old lady crossing the street, Frank is there to lend a helping hand.

He is honest to a fault, and though he won’t be unnecessarily harsh, if you ask for his opinion on something he will readily share it without sugarcoating, though he doesn’t usually offer up his opinions without reason. He does his best to enjoy life to it’s fullest, engaging himself in any activity or action that he hasn’t experienced before, which makes him a bit of a thrillseeker, always trying to find new things to do.

Due to his easygoing nature, Frank tends to be very passive especially in regards to his own well being. He rarely if ever gets angry, even at times when he really should. He also tends to accidentally isolate himself, it’s not that he doesn’t like the contact of others, but he doesn’t need or specifically desire it either, so if nobody reaches out to him he easily gets locked in a routine of doing his own thing without regard for others.
Aura and Semblance:
Frank has a larger than usual green aura of a color similar to his eyes. His semblance lets him make any food taste like whatever he wants it to taste like. The cost is negligible. He is in the process of learning to strengthen his blows with aura, he started learning early when his father thought he was ready, and he is still improving the skill.
Combat Behavior:
Francis’s combat behavior shifts drastically depending on the circumstances, he is incredibly adaptable which is possibly his greatest strength. He does his best to be prepared for any situation, and his ability to consider a situation is a solid asset. However, he has to do this considering before the situation is upon him, he’s skilled at strategy, not tactics.

If he has time to think through a situation in his methodical way, or if he has a pre-formed plan that fits the situation he’ll be fine, but if he doesn’t have time then he’s less capable of dealing with enemies. As such he tries to memorize common tactical situations and patterns, but there's only so much he can do.

He can work with allies or alone, though his preferences change based on what’s going on. His strengths lie in his...strength. He's reasonably quick, but where Francis really shines is his ability to take a hit and to keep on hitting just as hard. His large aura reserves make him more durable than he looks, and his ability to use aura to strengthen his blows in addition to his ample musculature make him a powerhouse as well.

WEAPON
NOTE: For brevity, I’m going to eschew the regular format here. None of the following weapons have names, multiple forms, dust functions, or significant histories. To be clear, he will NOT be carrying all of these around with him, he carries with him a maximum of three weapons if they’re reasonable (such as a sling, shield, and sword) but if he has a polearm, he won’t be carrying much else. Also I have images for all of these if needed, but they’re all incredibly standard so a quick google search should do if you’re curious.

Primary Form:
Harpoon gun-A harpoon gun designed to pierce large Grimm and lock them down, it has a cable attached to a harpoon and a self propelled winch to bring the harpoon in quickly if he misses.
Caestus-light leather gloves with implanted steel studs to make his hits harder.
Gladius-A simple short sword with a wooden hilt and a blade 60 cm long.
Kukri- A short machete like knife that curves inward and widens toward the tip, 43 cm in total length.
Falcata-A sword somewhat like a elongated Kukri, it narrows and then widens again from the hook shaped grip and hilt.
Cutlass-A short broad sabre with a small guard.
Estoc-A long, thin, wedge shaped blade not sharpened along the edges that narrows to a sharp point about 48 inches long, has a cruciform hilt.
Arming sword-The classic knightly sword, 30 inch blade evenly narrows from a cruciform hilt with a fuller down the blade.
Side Sword- a narrower and longer blade than the arming sword, it has a more elaborate hilt to offer greater protection.
Rapier- Even more slender than the side sword, this blade is 41 inches long and though it is edged, it’s mainly a thrusting sword made for fencing, a different type of swordplay.
Claymore-A two handed broadsword with a cruciform hilt and a blade 47 inches long.
Tomahawk (2)-two small hatchet like axes balanced for throwing but made to be used on their own as well, he has two mostly for shits and giggles.
Mace- A short flanged mace made to be used on foot, about 3 feet long.
Quarterstaff-Dude its a stick. About 6 feet.
Buckler-A small shield without ornamentation, has a round protrusion in front and is wood covered in metal. 18 inches in diameter.
Large rectangular shield- shield like the scuta, this shield is made to cover most of the body.
Hasta- Long thrusting spear 2 meters in length
Glaive- Long polearm with a curving blade 18 inches long on the end of a 2 meter pole, made for sweeping not thrusting.
Sling- a long thong of leather and cord with a pocket to hold stones found on the ground, he carries no dedicated ammo and usually carries it coiled in a pocket since it’s light and easy to hide.
Crossbow- A handheld crossbow that can be drawn without the aid of winches, he carries a brace of 10 bolts when he uses it.
His kickin bod-6 feet and change of pure buttkicking might.

History:
Acquired mainly from his family’s personal armory, though he also had some given to him from family friends and the like.
We can't have three different signatures anymore? Fuck the new board that's it I'm out.

Note for anyone who actually reads my character profiles: They're all jokes. Like...seriously. Anything that seems dumb is probably intentional, and even if it isn't I'll say it is to avoid admitting that I'm anything less than perfection.
