Title: AAAA (Ask the Author Almost Anything)
Post by: nathan67003 on September 13, 2016, 05:56:37 AM
You realize you're standing in front of the door to a small house. You have absolutely no idea how you got there, but that's where you are, so to hell with it. You turn around to try and see if the place is familiar. A road is nearby and a large swath of land is visible to the left, an open field. To the right, about 15 meters out, stands the edge of a forest old enough to have thick, spaced-out trunks. Closer to you, the land is covered in a random mixture of freshly cut plants, from clover to grass and moss. Turning back towards the door, you press down on the handle and it effortlessly opens. The first thing you notice is a rather average-looking boy, seemingly 16 or 17, sitting in front of a computer monitor, with headphones on. Another desk is also visible from where you stand, covered in paper with what seems like schematics and drawings of various natures. The boy swivels his chair to turn to you, taking off his headphones in the process.

'Sup.

I'm not much of a storyteller, so ask away.

Also for the heavy WiP Islium 3.0.

Spoiler: ShowHide
I'm actually the IRL Edgelord McFuckstain. I'm not kidding.

What got you into role playing?

I had just finished watching RWBY and really, really wanted to make myself a character. When I was randomly browsing, I came across RPG and RWBY written on the same page. I then clicked a link, I believe, which brought me to the first RWBYFanon board ever, which I then followed to the second one, and then I found the post-reboot one, signed up and made my first ever character who was, as Xarias and Kaliot can probably attest to, ridiculously op.

I think I vaguely remember that character, and even debating the mechanics of the semblance or something.

And now for a question: why make an author avatar character?

Let's say there existed a weapon, or weapons, of unimaginable power. The power to reshape reality and maybe even have a will and voice of their own. How would your characters react to the discovery of this information?

Gus: Well, it's, umm... already somewhat a thing in Islium, what with the Kryal and such - especially if they happen to merge.

Otherwise, they'd probably treat said weapons as entities with 'people rights' and communicate with them as they would with everyone else. Maybe they'd walk a bit more on eggshells, but that's about it.

Rex: 1) I had never roleplayed anything before, so I figured it was the best way to get into it while screwing up as little as possible, since I know myself pretty well. 2) It's the character I happened to have in mind.

OH GOD WHY

1. I suck at telling others about myself without the subject having been narrowed down by asking a question.
2. I'm 98% incapable of accepting compliments. Instructions are burried in the Shitload of People thread.
3. I have no IRL friends (people I've actually physically met, that is).
4. I can simulate sensations, like how it'd feel to have tentacles for arms, with surprising accuracy.
5. I'm not that hyped about myself.
6. I really am a good listener.
7. I don't think I've ever had an adrenaline rush.
8. Given the right conditions, I'm capable of taking a human life without remorse. I'd prefer not to, though :P
9. I'm heterosexual. And starting to run out of ideas.
10. I have bones which are more dense than average - they're probably the main reason I weigh so much while having so little muscle.
11. I am capable of fully grasping the concept of infinity.
12. Apart from on here, I've only ever had 2 people give me a nickname. Literally everyone calls me Nathan.
13. I haven't swum in over 5 years.
14. I have very precise ideas on how much you should care about a potential love interest's looks.
15. I'm fucking ridiculously wise about some things for my age, and already was when I was 14.
16. I absolutely hate unnecessary lighting.
17. I adapt freakishly quickly in a variety of ways.
18. I determined most of my convictions through recursive deductive reasoning.
19. I know that the only way to deal with omnipotence and omniscience is to not use them unless absolutely necessary.
20. I don't really celebrate my birthday anymore. It's just another normal day. My mom still forces me to, though.

There. I've done my best, which is admittedly fucking horrible.

Shouldn't have double-posted, but I did.

Anyway, this thread is now also for asking questions about Islium 3.0, which is currently getting worked on.

Not familiar with Islium so can't really ask about that, apart from what it is?

Now that I finally have some real downtime I've been going through the HTDG posts before Diana joined the team in detail, trying to create a mental picture but I've been struggling with the voices should go with each person. So I was wondering how you would describe your characters speech and mannerisms (Rough? musical? Loud? emotionful/less? use of gestures? etc). Obviously I'm most interested in Brock but wouldn't mind hearing about your other characters too.

Islium was denied once and nuked twice and therefore no longer even exists at the planning stage until further order.

And, uuuuuh, that's a tough one. For Brock, I'd say mostly loud and rough.

Nathan would be... unusual, I guess. Not quite certain. Camelia would be overly friendly or pissed off. Anna would be mostly shy or quiet. Helena would be amicable at nearly all times.

Why the fuck is Camelia so annoying?

Jk, jk. Why do you think she's getting on Bianca's nerves so much though? Also, does Camelia know why?

Also also which 2 characters of yours would you pair up if you had to? Current relationships don't matter.

1) I genuinely have no clue. Maybe she's too good at socializing and it's putting Bi off?... Or maybe she wants to socialize too much for Bianca's tastes? Again, no idea.

2) HHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMM. AS IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW THIS.

No, I genuinely do not know, please educate us ignorant people here Natendo. Don't know a thing, nope, nada, not at all... definitely not just me wanting to hear you say it.

Can you think of any other professions for your characters if they hadn't become Huntsmen or Huntresses?
Title: Re: AAAA (Ask the Author Almost Anything)
Post by: nathan67003 on May 30, 2017, 08:14:19 AM
Hmm. Not sure. Probably. Nathan'd be a scientist. Camelia would probs be a police officer, to some degree. Anna would be, like, a nerd, I guess. Brock'd eventually run his own shop. Of what, no clue. Helena would be a doctor/physician.

I love how 'nerd' is Anna's profession.

I'm going to steal Mythic's question.

At this point in Team ASTC's mission, what does Anna think of her respective members? (Omitting the "most and least liked part of the question here.)

She's getting a bit more comfortable (very, very slightly), but doesn't know enough yet to settle on a given opinion.

Mythic: It's pretty much the most apt description tbh.

If you were to recreate your characters in DnD, how would you build them (classes and such) in order to preserve the same basic story/theme/combat behaviour?

(Feel free to use any other rpg system or video game classes if you aren't familiar with DnD)
Title: Re: AAAA (Ask the Author Almost Anything)

I have no idea, so I'll wing it via the proof of how much of a nerd I am, World of Warcraft.

N: Dunno, he's weirdly well-rounded. Probably druid, then. Which fits, since 1) author avatar and 2) my fave class (years ago, anyway).
C: Probably Paladin. Yeah
A: This' a weird one. Rogue? Maybe?
B: Warrior. Duh.
H: Hunter because they're the only fuckers who main ranged weapons (wands count as magic, mmkay?).

Now that our team is officially initiated I wanted to expand on some of the things that will have happened between initiation and the next thread with some questions to the team (in separate threads because that's how the amas are). Anyhoo. What did Brock bring to the dorm, what possessions would we find on his nightstand/desk/shelves that sorta thing?

Uuuuh, good questions.

A lava lamp.
Some deep, philosophical shit in book format.
Too many weights. FAR too many.
An abacus, a gift from his mother when he was young. (is it one or two bs?)
Books in general.
A pull-up bar and assorted, diy-gym accessories.
The day's/week's newspaper.
Too many cushions.
A pair of reading glasses.
I don't know anymore.

And how does Brock feel about the dorm situation, does he mind sharing a room like that (Care about sharing with both genders, is he particular about cleaning, or sleep schedule etc.)

As long as it's relatively quiet (especially at night), he's fine.

That's literally the extent of his feelings regarding that situation.

Okay I'm going to steal Vision's question: What trinkets and such would Nathan bring to the dorm? Or would he not bring anything because he's just so boring-I mean nothing...

Also, how does Nathan-the-character feel about Skye not approving of him? What would he do to try to impress her or gain her favor?

Annyeong, Nathan-the-human-I-think-but-really-you-never-know AKA Natendo.
Title: Re: AAAA (Ask the Author Almost Anything)

-_-
Well, he'd mostly bring his crystal charger and, more importantly, his PC. This would sum up the visible decorations he did. Apart from that... not much else dorm-specific, really. Just clothes.

Hmm. Well, he certainly doesn't enjoy it. He'd rather she approved of him, however reluctantly. As for what he'd do... dunno. Most chars so far seem to only start enduring Nathan once they get to know him. Besides, he doesn't really know what he could do - he's not the socialite type, popular type or public figure type, which Skye (and Mauve as well) arguably seems to be. He's just a massive nerd of a Huntsman in training and sincerely doubts anything created from his interests could shift Skye's opinion in his favor.

??? Annyeong? Pls tell me what you mean Idon'tunderstand.

Annyeong, a way of saying farewell. Literally 'peace.' Derived from the same Chinese character(s) as the Vietnamese word 'an ninh.'

Question for yourself, why do you have so many characters in the works? I know because Islium 'n schist, but seriously. That a lot. (Also I see one of your future chars shares my name rn, if you keep it then she better be amazing. If you don't then I will care less, but ya have to do my name justice.)

Also also, thoughts on all of Nathan's team members, past and present.

1) Because I have semblance ideas and this is my way of writing them down for future use. Yes, that's 7 ideas that haven't been fully developped yet. I'm also waiting on the ones at the top of the list before doing the ones further down - not everyone here is planned to be in Islium, christ. (Oh and I know it's your name, I just thought it fit really well with Glass. Nice ring to it and all. And, to be honest, since she's the last in line, she should be one of the best.)

2) Mauve: Great gal. Not just because Nathan's dating her, either. She's smart, sociable and has good morals, on top of having a very formal education for high-class thingies. A great team leader.

Ismael: He was weird af at the start, and he's still weird af. The only difference is that he's now sorta brosephs with Nathan and that Nathan actually understands him - most of the time, anyway.

Fortuna: Like Mauve, but self-taught and usually less of a diplomat about her opinions. Also great fun to have on the team. M + F = the girls who had to fix the boys' (bad) attire for special occasions.

Rusty: Seems like a good lad, but it literally hasn't even been half a day since Nathan learned of his existence. Enthusiastic for certain, albeit a bit more quiet when with others.

Figure its time for another question for team HTDG, this one is a lot simpler but certainly, one that they would have asked each other.

Why did you want to become Huntsman (Asking for Brock but feel free to respond with others as well).

Lightly taps Vij's forehead Silly, my characters have their own AMAA!

For Brock, it's to be able to protect those he cares about. 'Cause he was thoroughly unable to protect his mother.

Too many AMA threads..

With as many characters as you have do you find yourself preferring to use some of them? Or on the flipside are there characters you wish you got to use more?

Not preferring any of them, really. I feel I haven't played Camelia, Brock or Helena in social situations much, and have little battle experience with Cammie. Apart from that, it's pretty much fine. I just like having a go at everyone regularly, keep them evolving in some way. Else I start to miss 'em XP
