(OOC: Sorry about the delay in posting! I'll try to keep up with this better.)


Vahn's investigation of the cargo containers didn't immediately yield anything of interest... that is, until he got to one that was particularly battered and clawed up. The hatch on it was slightly askew, and it looked as though the Beowolves had been trying to pry it open at some distant point -- the claw marks were now also deep gouts of rust, suggesting they had been there at least a few months, possibly longer. Without a feat of strength there would be no way to pop the huge, mangled metal box open...

... but there was a small gap, just enough to peek inside.

If Vahn took the time to look and let his eyes adjust to the dark inside the container, he would make out a humanoid shape in among a splay of ruined cardboard boxes and consumer goods. Was it a survivor? A corpse? A mannequin?

Serin would find the entrance to the ship's bridge tower partially blocked by a fallen cargo container -- a tight squeeze, but one person could get through the gap at a time. On the other side was mostly darkness, punctuated by the intermittent, unsteady flickering of red emergency lights. A narrow flight of stairs led upwards to the bridge, another down into the bowels of the vessel. And somewhere in the dark, faint but definitely there, was a skittering, scraping sound that was hard to make out. Rats, maybe... or something else entirely?

Serin looked through the narrow gap the container created and into the hallway, it certainly didn't look safe to him but it was the best way that he was going to get answers about the condition of the ship."Looks like we can head into the bridge or down towards the bottom of the ship. I'm still thinking bridge but I'm not sure about these narrow corridors, wouldn't be great for fighting." He yelled back toward Vahn. He did not want to move in without him since he'd seen enough horror movies to know that's when shit really hits the fan, no matter what he would do it had to be as a team with Vahn. "How about you, anything interesting over there?"

Vahn takes a peek inside the metal box and sees the figure inside.  Not sure of what it is but if there's a chance it's a survivor or at least a body to provide closure to their family, he was going to take it.  "I think I see a body!  I'm taking a closer look inside!" He informs Serin as he tries to pry inside with his claws.

At first the container refused to give, the metal groaning and protesting under Vahn's efforts... then, all at once, a hinge broke under the strain and the metal hatch slumped off, crashing to the deck with a three-hundred-pound THUD.

What awaited inside was probably not a sight Vahn was quite prepared for. Soot and scorch marks covered the first half of the interior, whereas the back was packed with damaged and torn open cardboard boxes. The remnants of food wrappers could be seen amid the mess, and slumped against the very back of the giant metal crate... was a desiccated corpse.

Ghost Ships

Closer inspection would reveal a number of very odd details. For one, the corpse had a flamethrower with a bayonet still clutched in its bony hands. The weapon looked operable, though a quick inspection of the fuel tank would reveal it to be barely one third full -- not enough for extended use, likely to get maybe one or two significant gouts of flame out before running dry. Its frame was etched with rough tally marks in two rows, one marked by what looked like a Beowolf face and the other, with a much larger count, by a human skull. Not, to be sure, the sort of weapon that would have been carried by any crew members. The body itself, or what remained of it, held further points of interest. The clothing looked like it had been ragged and well-worn long before the salty sea air had caused it to start unraveling, covered in patches and rough stitch-work. The man -- though it was hard to be certain -- who'd died wearing it didn't look particularly civilized: missing teeth, long scars, and an array of tattoos going down what remained of the skin on his left arm. One of those tattoos stood out more prominently than the others: two laughing skulls turned outward, daggers jutting blade-out through their maws. It was a sinister symbol.

All signs suggested the deceased had holed up in the cargo box, fending off inquisitive Grimm with occasional bursts from his weapon... only to eventually die of hunger, thirst, or possibly wounds. It was just as out of place on this ship as the Grimm themselves, that much was for certain.

Serin ran over to Vahn to help investigate the person/body inside the container and got there just as he ripped the door off. The whole container was a mess, burned and scratched from the man and Grimm who fought over it. Adding to that the person didn't look like he belongs as part of the crew of this ship, what remained of his clothes were too harsh to be a captain or even engineer. "What the hell." Serin mouthed as he took in the scene. What seemed like could help the investigation only added to the mystery of what happened.
   
Serin tentatively walked into the container to investigate further but didn't find anything of interested other than the body."So, uh, pirate? Damn this is weird."He said picking up the flamethrower to find it not empty yet."He can't have too long ago or else he would be just bones, so we should add that to the list of things we know."
